Portrait photography can be extremely rewarding, and at the same time extremely challenging. Whereas most other photographic genres rely completely on the photographer’s ideas, talent, and techniques… Portraiture introduces a wildcard… the subject (a.k.a. The Model). While a landscape photographer can spend time fiddling around with his or her camera settings, or they can sit tight while munching on a bag of potato chips, waiting for the light to get just right, a portrait photographer needs to move! A portrait ‘subject’ will become bored, and agitated, if they have to sit waiting on the photographer. This is especially true with children, busy business folks, the elderly, and pets.
