and damian so badly wants to protect those he views as not being able to help themselves, or those who came from “lesser” circumstances than he did. maybe not at first, but damian will always help children when they are being hurt and spouses too deep under their toxic partner’s control and animals and bugs and he’ll ask the elderly if they’re okay before he leaves. everyone that has been labeled as less important, or not worth the time. damian wants to help them, he wants to understand stephanie even at the start.

they’re in the bounce house and damian is pretending he’s not smiling, and stephanie points it out and damian uses his default “i will stab you.” and she asks “would that be fun?” man. would it be fun? would stabbing me be fun to you? would it really? and damian replies “maybe.” and she thinks “there’s hope for him yet.”
