This is so me today.
I've woken up exhausted - I have a real hate relationship (there is no love) going on with my 5am alarm right now, and this morning was no exception. After snoozing the alarm for 30mins I eventually got up, I then went through the normally inner monologue I have with myself when I am deciding whether or not I should cycle to work today.
It's windy
It's going to rain
It's cold
I'm tired
blah, blah, blah.
The truth is, I WANTED to cycle but the lazy person in me just couldnt be arsed - it had nothing to do with the weather, I just simply wanted to crawl back to bed again and commence sleep/dreaming/dribbling. LAZY. I go through this battle most mornings, almost trying to find valid reasons that I would accept in order for me to NOT do something, when truthfully I know I want to do it!
Did I do it?
Yes I did. I cycled and I feel SO much better for it. Yes, it was damp, it was a little cold and YES it was so fricking windy my thighs are still burning right now, but I feel mega proud I ditched the lazy Sarah today.
Today I will kick ass... with the help of coffee. obv.

The British 10K London - HERE I COME...
I feel a little giddy with excitement over this... With massive thanks to Sweaty Betty and #TheFitCrowd I am pleased to say I have a place in The British 10K in London on 14th July THIS YEAR! I have been wanting to get a place in this race for a while now and was completely gutted I missed out last year!
Wanna know why?
THE BRITISH 10K LONDON RUN IS STAGED ON THE WORLD'S GREATEST ROAD RACE ROUTE THROUGH THE HEART OF CENTRAL LONDON PASSING MANY OF THE CAPITAL'S TRULY WORLD CLASS HISTORIC LANDMARKS.
Looking back at the photos of it last year caused my heart to skip a little beat - I've run a few races, but only one 10k and never in the centre of London like this - I can only imagine what the atmosphere is going to be like!
When Sweaty Betty asked me if I would take on a Personal Challenge from being in #TheFitCrowd I was firstly blown away but also worried. Y'see, at the beginning of this year I was all set and ready to undertake some various running challenges, however as the year went on, injury came, depression followed I pulled out of every single challenge and cleared my racing diary. I had well and truly fallen out of love with running and the sheer thought of lacing up the trainers filled me with dread - and so my sofa became my best friend (as well as Dairy Milk)
I have learned that rest is imperative and after spending the last two years on a training plan for various half marathons, I had lost what it was to just go out and run, so 2 months ago I went out and ran.
For fun.
I loved every step, every corner, every breathe - everything felt renewed and alive and I instantly remember WHY I decide to run. Between getting back to running (It's scary how unfit you become when you stop running altogether!) I have been getting back to to cycling to and from work every day and so far, touch wood, I am loving every minute of this exercise journey. Don't get me wrong - I have a LONG way to go, but I feel ready to take on a challenge.
I'm so excited for The British 10K London and running knowing that Sweaty Betty have set down the gauntlet for me to run the 10k is proving a great motivator! I even aim on getting my best 10K time..hopefully..
Now to get some training on board...

Trialling Sweaty Betty wear...
With the weather being a little drier, it was time to trial my new Sweaty Betty workout gear!
I'd never worn SB training clothes before and despite looking good, I wasnt sure if they were going to be as 'technical' as my beloved Nike wear, I was however surprised. The leggings were lovely and comfy and stayed put throughout my run with bagging/bunching or falling down - I didnt feel too hot or too cold and felt happy with the shape they gave my rather curvy bum!
The top was amazing - the one flaw being light grey was that it showed ALL the sweat up, but hey, least I was working hard right?!?! With drawstrings to make the top shorter or longer (great for wanting to hide the extra rolls of fat!) the top was comfy, not constricting and kept the sweat away from my skin even though it did show up, alot!
What I loved most about Sweaty Bettys training clothes were the effect they had on me - I felt much more glamorous than I normally do in my old nike wear that is, dare I say it, passed its sell by date!
Sweaty Betty def gets a thumbs up from me!
The sun arrived this weekend! it felt good right?? i struggled with having hardly any time this wkend. I didnt have much of it thats for sure but I made sure I used my time wisely
With the weather being SO good, I decided it was time me + my hula hoop got reacquainted! Working the core muscles using a weighted hula hoop tones the waist and helps break you out into a sweat!
Granted, it hurts at first but it gets easier! Simply plug in your music and away you go!

Well, Its Tuesday! The dreaded Monday has gone and disappeared, have to be honest, yesterday was a struggle! Had a fab day out on Sunday where I went to London and let me tell you there was cake, meals out, copious coffee and treats - it was lush but there was a desperate part of me to get back out there and back on track.
I've been with Slimming World now for about 3 weeks and following the plan as best I can. It's not what I would call a diet as such and I'm actually ,dare I say it, enjoying it! With 9lbs lost already I am feeling better than I have done in a long time!
As for fitness? Well, me and bike are as one again - back to cycling to and from work every day, it's not a vast distance but nothing beats the feeling of cycling with the wind in your hair, breeze on your face. I feel good.
As for running, well, the break is over. I ma getting reacquainted with running - it isn't easy after so long off but I have taken all pressure off, no races, no training plans and no real goals - just me and my trainers. It's a good feeling - more on this another time.

How amazing are these running capri's!?! I'm totally and utterly in love with them and think these just have to be THE summer running leggings of choice! These will certainly make me look forward to those runs a little more!

Happy SUNNY Saturday indeed....
It's been 4 months since Ive last laced the trainers up, since I last decided to step outside and place one foot in front of the other and RUN. Today, I woke up and saw the sun, I saw the start of flowers poking their petals out, the air was fresh and something told me it was time to get back out there.
I was scared.
Running after injury is a hard place to be in - on one side I was so desperate to get out there, on the other I was scared the same thing would happen again but lastly my worst fear was that Id get out there and feel the same pain as before knowing that my time off made no difference to my running. Half the battle with all fitness is the inner monologue you have before you even get out of the door and today was no different. I dont believe sometimes, I forget I've ever run before and mostly I'm afraid at how unfit I've become and the clothes sizes I've gone up.
I did go out, I did lace up, I did step out.
It felt beyond good, it was by no means perfect or easy, but I loved it.
I guess it made me realise why I fell in love with it in the first place... So now I shall start as I mean to go on, no more pressure, expectations, for now I shall just run.

Spring has sprung... or has it?
Wow... has it been that long since I've written on here... Remember how I was telling you all to get outside, to embrace the good weather and now look at it!?!?!

For me, the weather has never really be a problem, I dont shy away from exercise because it's raining but that being said I still haven't exercised outside. In fact, I haven't been out for a run for 3 months. Saying this out loud makes me feel a little bit of a failure, but there is a reason behind it.
After damaging my knee and consequently missing out on running the Brighton half, I found that I was getting more and more reluctant to lace up the trainers, to find that enthusiasm to get out there and just run. Yeah, I enjoyed it once Id gotten out there but the trouble was the training. I had been on some sort of training plan since the day I decided to start running. I ran from one half marathon training plan to the next, and lo and behold the same started to happen this year. You know what? my body was exhausted but more than that, my mind was.
Regularly beating myself up because I didnt feel like going out for that designated 5mile run, or not managing to hit 10,11,12 miles on the long run days when my training plan was telling me too, was soul-destroying. Regularly beating myself up for 'not doing as I'm told' I found myself hating running, hiding my trainers and even, dare I say it, making excuses.
So I stopped.
I pulled out of every other run I am scheduled to do this year.

But you know what? I feel pretty darn amazing for admitting it to myself and for finally taking a step towards being honest with myself. It's hard and some of you out there might think I'm a failure, but no-one can take away the fact I have run 4 half marathons. I will someday go back to running in a race but until then? It's just me... my trainers... no expectations just plodding. I will run when I can and for how long I can.
I'm happy with that.
