a little PSA about giving & receiving comments
I have tried reaaalllly hard to not take “hey this looks like ____, reminds me of ____, or is just like _____” to not always mean a bad thing haha. This is a cool comic that helps everybody involved understand each other, I think : )
In that spirit, here are some no no’s for writers!
“Hey, this is basically the plot of [X}”
“[X author] had the same idea.”
“Your character looks a lot like [x] character.”
“Have you tried reading [x]? It’s basically the same thing.”
I’m down to talk about how stories compare when one of the stories isn’t mine. Otherwise it sounds like an accusation or “please give up writing forever because someone already did this. idiot.”
Instead try:
“I love this trope! I read [x] story which introduced me to it, I think you’d like it.”
“You remind me of my favorite author! Keep up the good work!”
“I love these types of characters.”
“Ooh, I love these types of stories! I read one by [x] and if you like reading this genre, I’d recommend it.”
SAY 📢 IT 📢 LOUDER 📢
TRUTH.
Ok I'm an anon who in the past has asked you how to read and watch mdzs, and I recently asked about vinland saga. Now I'm also super curious, and I'm SO sorry if this is getting annoying, but what is tcgf about and where can I read that? It looks so interesting!!
DON’T APOLOGIZE. and sorry for the late response! i was putting together an ebook for you lol… without further ado:
where can you read tgcf aka heaven official’s blessing?
@ sakhyulations (chapters 1-24)
@ suika’s translations on a google drive (all the rest)
OR: ALL OF TGCF IN ONE EPUB
AND: READ THE MANHUA PLEASE JUST DO IT THERE ARE ONLY 2 CHAPTERS SO FAR (it started two days ago lol)
what is it?
it’s an epic love story about a fallen god and a demon king written by mxtx. it’s part war story, part murder mystery, part humor, part tragedy (with a happy ending, but man do they earn it). the story is just plain fun to read and genuinely funny, but also deeply moving, while the plot is so tight and intricate that little every detail from the first few pages comes back around by the end. it’s a triumph to read.
the main characters are xie lian and hua cheng. xie lian is a god of rags and misfortune, still known as “the crown prince” though he’s fallen from godhood twice and his nation fell to ruin 800 years previously. he’s technically a god of war, once one of the most powerful in existence, but by the opening of the story he’s known as “the laughing stock of the three realms,” a title he bears with humility, grace, and humor. hua cheng, almost his opposite, is the ghost king, one of the four great calamities, who made his name in a single night after challenging 33 gods, defeating them, destroying their temples, and thus wiping them off the face of the earth. (without temples and devotees, a god will become mortal and die.) hua cheng is feared in the heavens and worshiped on earth. of course, his peerless brutality has one singular exception.
the story starts with xie lian’s third ascension to godhood, an event that shakes the heavens so bad that he gets put in debt to payback all the repair costs and has to start doing missions on earth to earn merits. it’s funny and the story starts a little confusingly until you slowly realize that xie lian is the most extreme case of unreliable narrator ever written and that most of the other gods’ awkwardness toward him is built on 800 years of history that xie lian won’t acknowledge until forced to–and boy, does the plot force him to. it’s one of those stories that you finish and immediately start rereading because the realization of how many subtle hints you missed is earth-shaking. the hat xie lian is wearing, the bandages around his wrist and neck, the white robes, the bead in hua cheng’s hair… all plot points that will leave you staring out the window for hours.
should you read it?
YES. i really want you to more than anything, i even made that ebook up there like a nerd, and if that’s not enough, it’s getting an animation and live action, so you will be fed for years. at its most simple, tgcf is a story about faith and devotion. it’s honest to god REALLY funny so read it for that if for nothing else. come for the humor and stay to rediscover the meaning of love. i’ve read this twice and am reading it a third time, and i enjoy it more and more each time i do. it truly does get dark in places but never without purpose. i can’t really say more because it’ll spoil some of the reveals even in the first few chapters. happy reading if you decide to and i’ll be here to hold you if you need it!
(all art in this post is from the official manhua artist starember so if nothing else, read the manhua!)
Currently Playing:
I’ll probably do 2 other of these posts, dedicated to what I’ve been watching and reading, but for now, this is it.
I’ve recently fallen into checking out Sims Stories games after reminiscing about my first Sims game - Bustin Out. Also helped that I’ve been watching people play Sims games - both torturing them and also making interesting things like their ships, their OC’s, etc. That’s what led me to research which Sims games were more story-focused, and lo and behold there existed some.
I’m playing Castaway Stories, Life Stories, Pet Stories and Sims Medieval. Of the four, I must say I’m not as into Medieval. Things take forever to be done since they walk on foot to any part of the map, and overall just more tedious. But hey, might just because I’m playing Castaway alongside it.
I love the Tom Hanks movie, so this game has been a blast so far. I still haven’t played a regular/normal Sims game, but maybe I might check out 3 or 4. I’ve always wanted to get into wrpgs but I’ve never been into their open-world type thing where I can get lost and die from that. Sims seems like a good in between since it’s open world but more character-focused.
Of course Sims is more about creating your own stories and characters, at least the non-stories ones, but I find interesting the parallels between sims and wrpgs, since wrpgs also allow you to tell your story by letting you have choices and quests you can do or skip.
It’s been an interesting fore into this wild jungle I never really explored, it also rejuvenated my interest in gaming. I haven’t done it in months, perhaps a year, but I’m really into it right now~
Akira Ishida's Interview on Kaworu from Evangelion 3.0
Ishida Akira (Nagisa Kaworu) Really, the sense of discomfort heading into “Q” was already put into place by 1.0 and 2.0. The whole, ‘It looks the same, right? But it’s not,’ thing. ––Both Kaworu and the first two installments serve to indicate that ‘this isn’t the same old Eva.’ Mr. Ishida, what’s your interpretation and how did it influence your performance? ISHIDA Actually, while 1.0 was being recorded, the director, Mr. Anno, gave me a lecture about who Kaworu and Shinji are in Rebuild. So, I based my performance [in 1.0 and 2.0] on my own understanding of the information I was given and the situation and lines in 1.0 and 2.0. And the same goes for my performance in Q. That said, I didn’t really have many scenes in 1.0 and 2.0. So, in Q it finally hit me, ‘So this is what it was all about…’ That sort of thing. ––I think everyone’s most interested in the ‘mystery’ at the core of that. ISHIDA If you’ll allow me to take a more circumspect approach, I think the background information Mr. Anno gave me in the beginning is something better left unspoken. Back during 1.0 and 2.0, people around me kept asking, ‘Is that another rehash of the TV series in movie form?’ and the like, and I couldn’t say anything but, ‘Please see for yourself.’ I don’t think anyone will think it’s a ‘rehash’ after seeing Q… ––It’s kind of funny that Kaworu seems to be acting on some information only he knows and the same situation seems to be replicated among the cast. I’m sure many people will be shocked by the content of Q. ISHIDA The thing the rest of the cast was surprised about this time were the things that the director had revealed to me alone in the beginning, and how my role and what I knew sort of lined up neatly. On the other hand, I kept having, ‘Ooh! You guys didn’t know that?’ moments. I had to be evasive with anyone looking for explanations up until now, and I guess I kind of miss the feeling of, ‘oh too bad, they think it’s a rehash,’ and ‘heh, they totally fell for it’ since that was kind of fun. ––With all those complicated feelings about it, you must have really been looking forward to [getting it over with], Mr. Ishida. ISHIDA It’s less a ‘looking forward’ to it kind of thing and more a ‘man, that was hard!’* As I’m sure you all know, I didn’t really appear much in 1.0, but after recording, Mr. Anno came up to me and told me, ‘We’ve got a lot to talk about what comes next now.’ Though, I guess if we’re gonna open that can of worms, I didn’t appear much in 2.0 either, did I? (lol) So when I went in to record for Q, I was all tense, it finally felt like the ‘real thing.’ To no one’s surprise, started speaking more and talked about things no one would have expected up until now. Of course, I’d expected it to go off the established “Eva” course. Even if they talk about different things, the feelings Kaworu has for Ikari Shinji… they won’t change. I knew the world was different this time, but, on top of that, I was worried about how to best approach Ikari Shinji this time so that everyone would understand that. That was a high hurdle. I was thinking about how to handle it from the very beginning. How should Nagisa Kaworu be after he’s accumulated several different cycles in his past? And Eva itself has a very precise strike-zone, to get it just like it should be. I couldn’t lose sight of that. *- he’s punning 待望 (taibou/long-awaited) and 大変 (taihen/hard) Multiple takes during recording to polish the finished product ––What was recording like? ISHIDA Well, it’s been 10-something years of real-time for this Ishida Akira and it’s been a while since I voiced the original series and the spin-off games, I’ve slowly digested the role [over the years], I guess you could say [the role] has ripened [inside me]. But, I can’t let that change [him] from the original image. It’s been really difficult to live up to the various demands of the staff putting this Eva together. ––What kind of exchange did you have with Director Anno? ISHIDA We had to do quite a few takes to fully realize the scenes and get Nagisa Kaworu, as a character, just right and solidify his image. Some takes took a whole day to get just right. So, it’s turned into a very carefully acted piece. The image of Nagisa Kaworu inside Ishida Akira and the image of him when the audience saw him for the first time on TV are now one and the same again… That’s kind of how recording went. Well, that would just make it episode 24 of the TV series, but I endeavored not to [merely] reproduce the performance. When you look at the TV series again, everyone was doing their best back then, but I didn’t want to just amend and copy that. Honestly, once recording for Q was over, I came to the conclusion that [the end result] was neither just the ‘Nagisa Kaworu’ of the past or the ‘Nagisa Kaworu’ I know, now, in 2012. Everyone’s impressions of a character are always changing and expanding, and they each have their own hopes and desires for characters, so I think we were sort of realigning those hopes and desires with this. ––I see. And this is the first time in Rebuild that we’ve seen [Kaworu] interacting with Shinji. ISHIDA The first conversation with Shinji was really massive to me. Up until now, [Kaworu] has just been one-sidedly expressing his feelings, bit by bit, about Rebuild’s seize-the-moment Ikari Shinji. And finally, he gets to talk to him in person… I’m sure Kaworu was anxiously awaiting that moment… Yeah… I guess that’s what a face-to-face meeting is all about after all. [It’s more important to him to] spend time talking to him in the flesh than it is to support him, secretly from the shadows. It reminded me how central of a theme communication like that is in Evangelion. When you look at it like that, once Shinji’s been estranged from everyone and has no one to lean on, that’s when he meets Kaworu. The fact that they manage to have a conversation at that point is incredibly significant. I feel like first two movies were the perfect set up for that situation. ––That said, Kaworu is a bit of a tragic figure, isn’t he? ISHIDA The first two films in Rebuild were used to vividly remind the audience of specific scenes and nuances of the original TV series. No matter how many times it happens, it always ends the same way. It should have been different from the previous cycle, but the same mistakes are repeated once again. He has an unfortunate destiny. But, it’s like he switched tracks at a different point this time. {train track/destiny metaphor, suddenly I’m reminded of Penguindrum…} It’s like he struggles against the flow [of his fate] and sacrifices himself so that Shinji can survive [because Shinji has to survive]. ––Seeing the always aloof Kaworu acting more agitated was quite refreshing. ISHIDA Nagisa Kaworu understands most things, he knows everything and has absolute freedom of action. He seems rather capricious, don’t you think? He acts on the knowledge of the purpose of his existence, but it’s not like he can control everything. He clashes with Gendou and Seele and co. who are acting on their own understanding of the world, Kaworu has a sort of bird’s-eye-view of it all, but even in that role, he’s not in a position of control. {way to not really answer the question, Ishida} ––I get the impression from our talk that you really put your all into playing Kaworu. ISHIDA All of the staff, not just Director Anno, are very personally invested in the current series under the Eva title, so I’m putting up my best effort. Even in recording, we were trying to get everything down very precisely. So everyone was always going, ‘not this or that really,’ and so on. When I was standing in front of the microphone, it was just me and Ms. Ogata alone in the booth together, we spent much more time interpreting scenes and lines than would possible on other projects. There was this atmosphere of, ‘let’s do it right after we understand it’ so the work itself was actually really hard, but, no one ever started shouting, ‘hurry up and do it!’ there was a real feeling of everyone working together on it. It wasn’t just simple pressure, but there was this [strange] sense of security in the knowledge that we were all working together to create the end product. I was really happy to be able to perform in the same scenes with Ms. Ogata this time around. Up until now [on Rebuild], I’d been recording all alone. ––Piloting an Eva in tandem with Shinji is a first for Kaworu, isn’t it? I think you could interpret it as a sort of ‘love scene’ in a sense. ISHIDA I don’t know if I can make that interpretation (lol). I think you should wait to hear from the director or leave it to the really involved fans. But, at the very least, them getting in the same unit is different, as they both pursue the same goal together. It seems [representative] of the depth of their connection. ––Any other impressions? ISHIDA I think the biggest shock, visually, was how the moon ended up looking. From the very beginning, the world of Q is depicted beautifully, so it was quite a shock. Even though you could see everyone living their lives in the intricately crafted environment, what Shinji wants to see stands out, like a ‘bam!’ appearing from a thick haze. It’s like, you thought you knew everything about the world, and then it just slaps you in the face with, ‘this is the reality you wanted to see,’ it was quite impactful. {haven’t seen the movie so I don’t really know what he’s talking about} ––Alright then, how about a final message for the fans? ISHIDA
I’m sure those of you who have thoroughly read into the stories of 1.0 and 2.0 of Rebuild so far will think Q was a rather ‘fast development.’ But, 1.0 and 2.0 already developed the sense of malaise leading into Q. It’s like, ‘It looks the same right? But it’s not.’ To those of you who saw Q, please go back to the theater a few times to figure out, ‘just what is the meaning of this?’ But, if you were to ask ‘how to prepare for it?’ I’d ask that you return to 1.0 and 2.0 and watch them again, right? If you watch very carefully, you’ll see, ‘oh, this is where that’s from’ ‘and here too’ for sure. I think, if you watch it over from the beginning again, you’ll see how Q fits into the story for sure, and I know you’ll be even more interested in ‘where does it go from here?’ after Q’s rapid development. Since, at this point, we’ve just jumped past the established cannon with a ‘bam!’ there’s no way it’ll end like the TV series or previous movie {EoE} now. At least, that’s what I believe. If you look at it like that, I’m sure you’ll all be really exited to know ‘but what happens now?’ and ‘then what?’ for the next one. Please look forward to the conclusion.

Shinji realizes he’s lying on his bed. Kaworu is looking down at him. KAWORU You awake? SHINJI …… KAWORU You passed out. You really scared me when you collapsed. SHINJI Sorry…… for being such a bother. KAWORU You must be tired. I’m sure. So much has happened. SHINJI Yeah. A lot has happened…… Kaworu notices the cello in the corner of the room. KAWORU Is that yours? SHINJI Yeah. KAWORU It’s a nice cello. SHINJI It was my mother’s. KAWORU Oh, I know. We should play together. You on cello, me on piano. I’m sure it’ll calm you down. It must be suffocating being trapped underground, just doing Eva tests all day. SHINJI But, I don’t think my cello playing is as good as your piano. I’m embarrassed. KAWORU It’ll just be for fun. Plus, what do we have to be embarrassed about at this point? Shinji remembers his disgraceful behavior, and his pale face turns bright red again. KAWORU Is there a piano somewhere around here? SHINJI I think there should be one in the lounge. KAWORU I have a startup test with Unit 02 tomorrow. Let’s go tomorrow after that. Promise? SHINJI Okay. KAWORU Well, I should be going. SHINJI Good night. KAWORU Good night–– Kaworu’s face slides toward Shinji’s. Kaworu gives Shinji a kiss. Shinji doesn’t refuse him, he notices how naturally he accepts it. Feeling strangely calm, he looks up at the ceiling light.

Just finished this game. It only had 1 twist, and tbh the gameplay was annoying in my places. Turing is cute. The OST is a bit forgettable, but this song isn't. A good jazz bop.

poor-laika said: I didn’t want to “like” this because I think it would go against the spirit of your post. I think the like mechanism was a turn for the worse. I do miss the slower and more intimate interactions that places like livejournal encouraged! That’s partially why I’ve been enjoying pillowfort so much. Comment culture is a big deal over there.
I have no idea how to reply directly to u sorry, tumblr is so confusing for comments/replies/talking 😭
I wanted to thank you for commenting ♥️
Also yes, initially “like” was “favorite/bookmark” which was something useful because we wanted to be able to find certain posts or content again. Nowadays likes just don’t have the same function. Funnily enough, Twitter brought back Bookmarks, so perhaps there’s still faith.
1 of the big things i’ve done to be able to slow down and have intimate interactions in Twitter has been to remove RTs for everyone. Like that you only see the things friends talk about directly. I don’t know how to do that in Tumblr, and I also think it goes against a lot of what Tumblr is about: pictures, images, etc. So i wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not possible.
Gosh I miss livejournal, it still exists just like DreamWidth, but they don’t have the fanbases/people like they used to :(
Pillowfort sounds so good, but Tumblr started the same and then it devolved into what it is now, same for Twitter so idk if i can trust it, especially it being paid :( But i’m really glad commenting is a culture there, and that makes me look forward to it getting out of beta and perhaps I’ll join then 😁
Funnily enough i think the major social media site that has kept intimacy and is nice and easy is dundundun Instagram. You can’t reblog nor retweet, you can like of course, but comments aren’t hard to leave nor reply to. It still feels grounded, for now at least.
Sorry if i’m real bad at replying, but tumblr just isn’t intuitive about it and i’m struggling :’D

Studio Mir's own IP with Alexander Snow, which they're searching for distributors and investors. It looks so good, I hope they get to do it. They worked on Legend of Korra and Voltron Legendary Defender, but since they were other's IPs they didn't have the autonomy they will have with this Ip. I wish them all luck, and I want more and want to watch it really bad. I see great things coming from them, and I can't wait for it!~

Social Media
It's bizarre to me how much experience in internet changed, especially tools which the purpose for was striking conversation and facilitating that. Many would say social media started with FB, but the reality was it already existed in MSN and then Skype, and before those it was forums and IIRC's. MSN and Skype made it so we would talk to each other, be it in groups or 1-on-1, and it felt like we were all connected.

This gorgeous cover by HamletMachine is amazing, and the comic actually drawn by Johanna the Mad is so good and GAY. C.S. Pacat (from Captive Prince) did an amazing job writing this so far, and I'm here to see where it's going. It's good to see a sports series done by an indie team that's this good and talented, and making it GAY, bless. The wait for more, it's only at 12 issues so far, is gonna be excruciating but for a series this well done and with such names and skill, it's worth it <3
