“I don’t mean to brag, but now that we’re not evil, I’m basically Tempest’s best pal. She gave me a cupcake that had ‘SIDEKICK’ on it. That’s something only friends do. We’re like brothers now.”

Appearing suddenly from behind, even while not a villain, she still had the habit of doing that. “Brothers?” her voice cut through the air, before walking around to face Grubber. “Well, it can be conceived as nice that you consider me your family.” Tempest mused. “A little strange you consider me a brother. But I suppose you meant it as a compliment nevertheless.”

“Wonderful!” Rarity exclaimed happily, trotting over to the other mare’s side, “Well, I suppose that we should start with the castle, and the areas around it then!”

As the two began walking, Rarity pointed various locations that she thought Tempest might want to remember so she could go there herself eventually, keeping a slow and steady pace and making sure not to get ahead of herself.

Tempest tried paying attention and looking where Rarity mentioned as they went, but she did somewhat lack attentiveness. This was mainly because of distraction, because she kept glancing over at Rarity’s horn. It was white as snow, it was perfect without so much as a dent, a scratch, a smudge. 

It kept making her think of her own and how imperfect it was, especially in comparison. Tempest couldn’t help but imagine Rarity looking at her broken horn with disgust and it upset her. She felt anger rise and she had to bite it back and channel it into mere coldness. Eventually she realized that she hadn’t really enjoyed the tour, but she had made a few mental notes of places that could be important or useful.

“Oh! Well…I know it’s never too late to get one.” Fluttershy began to explain. “For most ponies they learn at a younger age what their talent is..but you…weren’t in the best situation for learning.” She hummed to herself quietly, pondering what they could try as she sipped her cup of tea. “Wait! You’re good at-at..martial arts!” As Fluttershy said this she realized she didn’t really have much to add to her statement. “Um….”

“I have plenty of things I’m good at,” Tempest sighed. “It doesn’t mean that I know what my purpose is. Isn’t that what a cutie mark is? Some unique talent that no other pony has that is what you’re supposed to do with your life?”

         “ Usually, prosthetics are supposed to actually help rather than just to look pretty. “ And he does dabble with inventing things. After all, he created many things, mostly star or space based, as projects for his studies. Metal, crystals, the like, infused with magic and a power source. Yes, he was already getting an idea for a horn. One that can behave just like any other normal horn. The spark of interest in those rose colored eyes of his was vibrant. 

         Maybe he could help her. This has proven to give him a challenge, one that he will so gladly take. “ I’ve made projectors of the stars and various things as mere little projects for my studies. Magic infused with gears and gems. Perhaps I could do something similar for your horn. I just need to calculate correctly…. and measure the extent of your magic power so that this prosthetic could safely filter it in a way that you could use spells and perhaps amplify it.” He stroked his chin with his hoof, looking off to the side in thought. “ Yes, I believe it could work. “

     Tempest could, at the very least, see how this prosthetic could be made. If it worked, then that would be great. As long as she went into this without getting her hopes up, then she would be fine. But the unicorn knew that she had to go into this experiment of his with the mindset that it probably wouldn’t work. It was the only way she couldn’t have expectations only to have them be crushed.

     “Alright. I suppose we could try your experiments and see about a possible prosthetic horn.” she agreed. “Perhaps we should learn each other’s names. Mine is Tempest Shadow.” she told him.

“You’re very welcome.” Fluttershy stated. “And as long as my friends and I are here you’re sure to be welcome anywhere in Ponyville. We’re all glad to help you adjust.” She calmly beamed. “If you ever need any help with anything, or you just want to hang out for a while, we’re all here for you.”

Tempest nodded. “Right.” she murmured. “I’m told by quite a few ponies that you’re very helpful. I was wondering... would you know anything about getting a cutie mark?”

“I don’t know if I can even still obtain one, or if I can, I don’t know how to.”

Tempest had found enjoyment in the fireworks she made. It was strange, enjoying something that was happy and pretty. It had been a long time. 

As the Friendship Festival continued, the unicorn stayed near Fluttershy and Applejack. Something about them was just easy. Neither of them were overly pushy, nor did either of them have a horn. She was feeling less self conscious about it, since she was actually proud of her magic and what it could do, but it still stung, being around unicorns again.

“Well…you /may/ have helped the Storm King try and overtake Equestria..that is pretty frightening, but you were also misled by him.” Fluttershy attempted to explain. “He made promises to you that you thought he would keep if you helped him..and- well I just don’t think it’s fair to shut you out because of a mistake..especially not after the sacrifice you made to save us!” She smiled again once her minuscule speech had ceased. “So..what better way to break the ice than a relaxed setting and some nice warm tea?”

The unicorn had been surprised, but not unbelieving. The pegasus seemed genuine in her compassion, and it just surprised her was all. Surprised that Fluttershy was so willing to understand, it simply wasn’t something Tempest had expected from anypony anymore.“Thank you, Fluttershy.” Tempest brought herself to say. “It’s... nice to be so welcomed. You’re very kind.” she admitted.

           “You aren’t the first pony to fall down the wrong path, Tempest.”           Celestia’s words were sympathetic, but her smile was genuine.           “Yes, you hurt others to seem stronger, but.. you’ve learned from           those mistakes, and it isn’t too late to turn things around. Strength           does not mean cruelty or lack of emotion.”

         “I know.” Tempest admitted. “I mean no offense, but when I think,          the pony who comes to mind is your sister.”

       “I’ve heard the tales of Nightmare Moon and Luna and just... I can’t         help but wonder about that. How long did it take you to forgive her?”         the unicorn asked curiously. “I’m not sure who took longer to accept         her back, you or the other ponies. As for me, I’m not sure what true         strength is anymore. I thought I knew, but obviously I never have.”

“Oh, well, yes, I can see how that would be strange..” Rarity agreed, setting the basket of gems and ribbons down, “I doubt that you’ve had a tour of Canterlot yet. Would you care to join me for one, and perhaps lunch after? I need a break from working in this heat!”

Not a proper tour. She had scouted the place out, but that was nowhere near the same as a pony actually showing her the sights with the intention of enjoying them. As much as Tempest’s thinking told her that Rarity was simply offering as to show off how better she was, the broken unicorn told herself to at least try correcting this thinking. Horn or not, these ponies were actually trying to welcome her. At least, she thought so sometimes. “Fine, I suppose.” she murmured.
