“I appreciate it.” BB rests against the wall, eyes still shut so she can’t see what is going on in her lap. “I will get used to repairs, I think. Since I have some say in them now.”

> Hamburger and Biscuit peep softly in the background. Usually they’d be playing with their toys or swing, but Dave is still new and the budgies, being instinctively perpetually anxious, do not yet trust him.

“Doin’ all right?” he asks once he’s halfway through removing the pack.
