“Oh, dear,” said Regulus. “McGonagall is the last teacher I would want finding me out after hours. The others aren’t nearly as strict as she is.” Still the image of Professor McGonagall chasing Amycus across the courtyard was pretty funny and Regulus felt a smile spreading across his face.

Amycus chuckled at the memory, “she has eyesight like a hawk and can move fast when she wants to. I remember I had to practically sprint to get away from her when it happened.” It was one of his favorite moments with McGonagall, which there were very few of. The look she had given him in transfiguration, that was priceless.

“Not really, no.” Truthfully, the thought of finding a place to be alone to study hadn’t occurred to him before, but now that Amycus had mentioned it, Regulus decided to do just that. He followed Amycus up the steps to the bridge. “How did you even find this place?”

Amycus grinned as he began to walk across the bridge. He spun around so that he was walking backwards and giving Regulus a fair amount of his attention, “truthfully by accident, but only because I needed a place to dive into after McGonagall was chasing me when she caught me in the courtyard after hours.”

“I’ve mostly been focusing on my classes and Quidditch,” Regulus admitted. “I haven’t had much time for exploring.”  Anything that didn’t further his education or bring credit to the house of Black were generally looked upon as a waste of time by his parents and exploring the castle would doubtless have fallen under that category.

Amycus shrugged, “you never tried to find better hiding places for studying?” He knew that he had been more of a explorer than he should’ve been. It helped when he wanted to get away from everything. He jumped up the steps to the bridge, “no going back now.”

Regulus nodded to show that he understood. At the mention of an old servant’s entrance, Regulus thought about Kreacher and remembered how he had once tried to get the House Elf to take him to Hogwarts to see Sirius the year they had been apart. Unfortunately, his mother had overhead him giving Kreacher the order and put a stop to the scheme. He wondered what would have happened if she hadn’t. “Where is this old entrance?” he asked, as he followed Amycus.

Amycus started walking, stuffing his hands in his pants pocket. He thought about the best way to describe the location, “you know the Ravenclaw tower column? Its along that side wall, hidden behind a statue.” It wasn’t the best description but it worked for him for the time being. “Have you not done much exploring? You know, the innocent finding of abandoned hallways and passages?”

“It wouldn’t end up being a fun night for either of us.” She laughed lightly, moving towards the kitchens and navigating the darkness. “I know the quickest way. It’s not my first time sneaking into the kitchens at this time.” It was actually something she did more often than she wanted to admit.

Amycus bit back a response that he figured would be a little towards rude, “well, don’t let me keep you from your snacks, lead on.”

Regulus nodded. He remember what it was like for him before Sirius had become such a disappointment to their parents. Once it had become clear that Sirius was not going to be the heir their wanted, any freedom Regulus had was gone. That was only more thing that made Regulus so mad at his brother. 

“I guess so.” He had already committed to this so there was no backing out now. “What do we do first?”

“Fantastic,” Amycus grinned as he pushed himself from the tree he had been leaning against, “well first, we have to cross the bridge, but we can’t cut across the courtyard, we have to sneak in an old servant's entrance.”

That part was the easiest step of this entire thing, once they hit the main corridors it would become more of a dodging game until they made it to the dungeon. He took a few steps forward, looking over his shoulder to see if Regulus was going to follow.

Haunted Corridors || Amycus & Eris

Eris wasn’t sleeping again. Her nightmares weren’t just about her parents anymore though. Now they included the horrible night of the Halloween party.  And she couldn’t even sneak over to Dante, not with curfew strictly enforced and more aurors around. Despite being surrounded by friends in her dorm, she felt incredibly alone. Dante was the only person she knew who could make her feel better.

Against the knowledge that she would probably be caught, she got out of bed. Slipping out of the dorms, she headed downstairs. If she timed herself right and took different route she could probably avoid most of the aurors and ghosts. She stepped into the hallways, ready to give it a shot when she heard crying from behind.

Against her better judgement, she held off on her plan to investigate, finding the brother of her best friend. Eris had never been good at comforting people, but she bit her lip as she approached. “Amycus… are you alright?”

At first he didn’t recognize the voice and snapped his head up to chase the person off, only to realize that it was Eris. He frowned for a couple of seconds before he realized that he needed to respond. Only the words didn’t come at first, Amycus wasn’t entirely sure how he could salvage the situation without making things worse and have Eris run off to Alecto.

“I’m-” he stopped himself, “this will pass.” It was a bad answer, but not the worse one that he could’ve given her. Feeling strangely vulnerable being on the ground he quickly rose to his feet, using the wall to hold himself up not quite trusting his legs yet, “what are you even doing out here after hours, Eris?”

The attempt to steer the conversation was so obvious. It was more telling about how far off of his game he was. Usually if there was a subject that he didn’t want to talk about, then he’d use half answers until the person was satisfied or they noticed the topic change too late. Amycus sent her a grin that he was sure looked more like a grimace. He prayed that this conversation wouldn’t last much longer.

Wanted Connections (Most are multiple)

Flings -> Can be ex or current. Amycus is known to always have someone on his arms or he’s trying to get into someone’s pants. Most of the time it’s a one time deal, but if the partner understands that it won’t be exclusive and is worth it he’ll stay in touch with that person.

Close Friends -> Amycus seems to be on friendly terms with everyone, but rarely does he share anything profound with them. Those that he does share anything person with have earned his trust and there are few of them.

Rival -> Can be serious or just in jest, but even while Amycus tries to stay congenial with everyone there’s someone that he rubs the wrong way or competes with.

Partner in Crime -> Someone he can into some mischief with, like breaking school rules and being in general a rebel with

Wanted Plots (any other suggestions welcomed!)

Amycus has been seeing this person intimately for a long time. Only the relationship is getting a little too serious for Amycus’ liking and he breaks it off without warning. The fallout could be disastrous for the both of them. (Preferred male but can be either)

Someone finds out that Amycus isn’t the perfect son that he appears to be. Amycus is desperate for the word to not get out about his secret. Will this person let it go or hold it over him.

This person and Amycus have never gotten along. Whether it just be because they just don’t or because this person once did something unforgivable to Amycus (can be the other way around.)

A former partner of Amycus comes back into his life feeling vindictive/jealous/or wants to try again. Except Amycus isn’t the same person that he was years ago.

Amycus likes keeping his walls intact with everyone from family to friends to strangers. This person attempts to start breaking them down for either benevolent or malevolent reasons.

WWR PLOT RELATED: Amycus has been having nightmare since the attack. Its not about the Death Eaters, they meant nothing to him, no, they’re about how close he came to losing the people he cared about (namely his sister) and the fires that occurred. This person finds Amycus after a bad night.

Depending on who it is there are several routes,

1) Amycus is shaken up bad enough, and he wants comfort more than anything. Preferably the physical kind. In his vulnerable state, he’s more careless and willing to do things he usually wouldn’t (can lead into trouble down the road)

2) In a moment of weakness he takes reaction badly and ends up lashing out, losing his perfect son facade.

3) The person somehow uses Amycus’ vulnerable state to their advantage.

Haunted Corridors || Amycus & Eris

Amycus rushed out of the dorm, stumbling through the common room before finally managing to get out into the hallway. His chest was heaving, and he finally came to a stop doubling over to catch his breath. He gripped his knee tight enough to bruise. Finally, as the cold of the stone floor seeped into his feet he started to calm down.

The dream still danced behind his eyes every time he closed them. He could still clearly see the flames and dark robes as they turned the Great Hall into ash. Terrified screams pierced his ears, one in particular standing out. He knew, he knew, that Alecto had gotten out safe. Amycus hadn’t let her go after they had been reunited. They were safe for the time being.

Slowly everything faded to the back of his mind. He knew that sleep would evade him for the rest of the night. More than likely he would skip his first class, sleeping during the day had helped, but he needed to get this under control. If Father found out, Amycus shuttered. The words were already rattling around in his head. Weak. Pathetic. Unworthy. Worthless.

Amycus slid down the wall and held his head in his hands and he bit his lip to keep from any watching portrait or ghost from hearing his sobs. To caught up in himself, he failed to notice the distinctly human footsteps.

“I guess I am,” said Regulus. Only a fellow pureblood could understand what he was going through. Well, not all purebloods, obviously, only purebloods with parents like his. And not even then, he thought bitterly as he thought of his brother. How could Sirius have grown up in the exact same house, with the exact same parents and not get it? It baffled Regulus immensely.

He wasn’t sure if he wanted to continue on this line of conversation. It felt somehow freeing to be able to talk openly about this, but at the same time it felt somewhat dangerous. All his fears of being overheard came back to him. “And what about your sister?” he asked, deciding that talking about Alecto was neutral ground. “What do your parents have planned for her or she does she have more freedom to make her own decisions since she’s not the Carrow heir?”

Amycus chuckled  softly, “she has more freedom, but not so much more.” He knew that his father thought of Alecto as a spare, but if she acted out then it wasn’t quite so bad. Even then, there was that whole thing with the engagement to Sirius that had become unspeakable.  What an odd world it was that it was becoming.

After a couple of seconds of silence, Amycus decided that enough time had passed that they would be able to sneak in without much trouble. He discarded the cigarette to the ground, then he pulled out his wand and burned the evidence. “Ready to go a break some rules?”

Ashes to Ashes

Ever since the attack, Amycus’ mouth felt like it was full of ash. Everything that he ate, when he did eat, tasted the same. No matter how much he drank, he didn’t think he could get the feeling out of his mouth. He figured that he was reacting to the wrong thing, there had been Death Eaters in Hogwarts, and while he wasn’t scared of them it meant that he should be more wary that they were getting so bold.

No, he was still remembering the fire that had leapt out towards him. Burned his skin as he ran following and helping when he was finally able to pull himself from his paralyzed position on the ground. Smoke had filled his lungs, and the only time that he had been able to breathe freely that entire night was when Alecto was in his sight.

He should be getting back to normal, moving past this. Yet, he couldn’t. It still felt like he was back in that fire trying to find his way out. Amycus laughed bitterly, what his father would say to him if he saw how badly one little fire was affecting him. This wasn’t a big deal, it wasn’t even like he had been burned badly. There was a blister on his arm and a patch of missing hair on his leg, but that was it.

He was stronger than this. 

Except, apparently, he wasn’t. Amycus took another drink of water, trying to push it past his dry lips and wash away the ash in his mouth. What could he do about it? There was no one he could really turn to and tell. Well no one that wouldn’t keep that piece of information in their pocket until the opportune time. Alecto didn’t need to be bothered with that.

Amycus sighed, set the glass back down on the night stand and slid down under the covers, only to kick them off before he fell asleep. The last thing that he needed, was to feel like his was suffocating while he was asleep. He’d have enough of that in his dream.

“If I could do whatever I wanted,” said Regulus slowly, “without regard of anyone else?” He hesitated. He knew the answer of course, but he had never told anyone. Never spoken it aloud. He was afraid it would sound crazy. “If it were up to me and only me, I’d play Quidditch professionally.” There he had said it. Now that he had he felt the need to explain himself. “It’s the only thing I love more than anything. It’s the one thing that feels right. And I’m good at it.”

For a moment, he allowed himself to imagine what it would be like before pulling himself back down to earth. “But what I want doesn’t matter. It never has.” The bitterness that accompanied these words surprised him.

“Professional quidditch player?” Amycus said slowly, he looked Regulus up and down. He’d played with the kid on the same team for multiple years. He wasn’t bad, and he could make it professionally with a little more work. He finally decided on what to say, “that’s a good dream.”

As much as Amycus wanted to tell Regulus to tell his parents to shove off, he knew it wasn’t his place. Pureblood parents were a completely different beast than everyone else’s. Even Amycus, as blatantly as he ignored his father, wouldn’t actually disobey him to his face. Still he felt the need to say more.

“You’re talking to one of the few people that understand your position,” he said with a self-depreciating chuckle.

Regulus was surprised by Amycus’ answer. If Mr. & Mrs. Carrow were anything like his parents, he doubted they would approve of Amycus’ choice of career. Yet, a part of Regulus was jealous that Amycus knew what he wanted to do and was going to do it no matter what.

“More like my parents do.” He sighed. “If they have their way, I’ll go into magical law and become Minister of Magic before I’m thirty.” They had never exactly expressed that wish, but Regulus didn’t doubt it was what they wanted. Nothing less would do for the heir to the Black family.

Amycus grimaced slightly, before he put the cigarette to his lips again. As he inhaled he quirked an eyebrow. I wonder... He kept his face neutral, “Father has never told me what he wants me to do, other than carry on the family line, bring honor, so on so forth.”

“Minister of Magic, eh?” Amycus repeated, it was a lofty goal he could respect that, if it was truly Regulus’ own goal, “but what do you think would you want to do? If there were no other factors other than yourself?”

Truthfully, there wasn’t a reason to contemplate things that couldn’t be, but Amycus was merely killing time.

“What are you going to do after you graduate?” He wasn’t entirely sure why that particular subject had come to him. Maybe it was something he constantly asked himself. He knew what he wanted to do, of course, but he also knew his parents would never allow it. 

Amycus let the cigarette hang between his lips while he thought of the answer. Before he spoke he let out a long breath of smoke, “I don’t know. What I’m going to do is get a job in the ministry. Probably translating texts or something.”

As much as he liked translating things, he knew there was going to be retribution from his father. He’d see it as a weak proffession, and that his son shouldn’t be some kind of desk clerk, but out in the field. Amycus had arguments lined up, but he was thinking that maybe he’d take whatever punishment his father gave him. It didn’t matter.

“I bet you already have everything planned out?” He joked lightly.

Izzie gave a soft laugh, “I’m actually not sure that I could go an entire night without eating. I can try! But, don’t blame me if I start getting crabby without any food.”

“Alright then.” Regulus wasn’t sure what exactly made him agree to this scheme. Maybe it was just a desire to stray from the ordinary. Maybe the idea of going behind his parents’ backs for once appealed to him. Maybe both at once. Who know? Either way, there was no backing out it now. Not now that he had already agreed to do it. 

Amycus grinned widely. This should be fun. He made a show of pulling out one more cigarette and lighting it, “if you want to sneak in properly, we’ll have to wait a couple of more minutes.” Curfew was close, if they hadn’t missed it already. The minutes directly before were always the worse to try and sneak around in. Professors would be looking for any students.
