I got my beast professionally cleaned and got her bones back recently. I still miss her terribly, but I'm happy she's home.

Some fun additional info about her bones is she was a greasy old lady and her bones matched- she was the greasiest animal the taxidermist had ever encountered lol. She's still a bit discoloured, but we decided not to do further cleaning BC at that point it risked damage to the bones.

We're not sure what caused her to be so greasy- it could've potentially been kidney issues, but her blood tests came out fine during her life. We'll probably never know the answer to that mystery.

We also found out she was missing most of her turbinates (nose bones)- she was a wet and snotty animal the entire time I knew her, so our best guess was she had a really nasty nose infection early in her life that never really recovered, which would line up with the turbinates being gone. I never knew her then, but it's been interesting to find out more via her bones!

I interred and exhumed my cat and his skeleton had quite greasy bones as well! Domestic animals (cats, dogs, etc.) in general are quite a bit greasier than wild animals because they are in better conditions.

Wild animals are often only a few meals away from starvation, so loved pets typically have a lot more fat in general.

I’ve heard the term ‘dog butter’ for the sheer amount of adipocere that comes off of domestic canines during maceration.

My boy Dieno, taken too soon. He survived leprosy when he was five and then died at nine from liver problems. Now I have with me all the time, AND he helps me teach about dentition to high schoolers!

Danae (taxidermist) has done quite a few cats and other domestic animals before and Mimi still had them all beat for the grease factor apparently 😂 she had very greasy fur too so there was definitely something else going on. She wasn't even a fat animal, especially in her last year battling cancer (although you're completely right that she still was fatter than your average wild animal, and domestic animals will be greasier than a pet).

What a beautiful boy! I'm sorry he was taken too soon but he's doing good work and he's still wonderful. His little teefs... ❤️❤️❤️

i have a lot of mental and physical demons to battle but i also have a lot of wanderlust which means my crash outs are never like "i should kill myself" and are instead more like "i should drop my life savings on a train ticket and leave this place with nothing but a backpack and a dream" . which i suppose IS better than suicidal ideation but is also a bit funny. dealing with mental instability like a disgraced historic businessman who flees to paris for a new life. a cry for help shaped like 12 firefox tabs all dedicated to reading travel blogs.
