Fasching Season is hands down the best time of year in Germany.  Drive through southern Baden-Württemberg and town after town is festooned in brilliant pennants like these on Pfullendorf’s Obertor-Turm bringing color to the darkest winter days.

In Germany, gardens are a serious thing. The towns I lived in had perfectly manicured lawns and flowers erupted in a riotous bloom from the initial onset of warm weather in the spring to the final leaf falling before the snows. The garden in many homes was an outdoor living space. My dream home contains elements of a German garden.
