Now that she was right beside Mel again, Daisy remained close. She understood the need for vigilance. Holding tightly onto her bag with one hand and the pepper spray in the other, she looked both ways before heading back out into the streets. “Wh-where are we headed? I-I don’t even know if my parents are safe!” she cried, now worried about the rest of her family. Then a sense of guilt washed over her as she realized she hadn’t been thinking about anyone but herself throughout all of this.
“And what about you? A-are you going to be okay?”
“I’m fine. I’ve got a bat.” She also had the motivation of making sure she can through this safely so Nico and Leo didn’t freak out and scream at her. They’d probably freak out that she had done this anyway, but it would be way worse if she’d deliberately left safety and got herself hurt. Which she would much rather avoid.
“Once we’re out of this area, phones should work again and you can call them and find out. But the best place to be for now is the Estate and that’s where I’m going to take you. Our security is still up and functioning and we’re not that far away now.” As they reached the end of the alley, Mel paused, glancing quickly to see if there were any obvious dangers. When it looked like everyone else was distracted, she pulled them back out into the street, trying to get them across the intersection as quickly as possible.
