Wednesday and Thursday
I'm so proud of myself for waking up at 8 in the morning yesterday and actually going to the track and doing a couple of threshold miles. Of course, I was still groggy and it was an absolute struggle to make it to two, but they were faster than last time, so I'm going to focus on that.
The second day after threshold is always AWFUL and today was no exception. Luckily, I only have nine miles to get in by Saturday to stay on track to get 34 for the week, sooooo let's hear it for running less than an hour again!!!
I want to follow all you of you!

Week 2
Hooray for skipping a hill repeat workout and doing a long run instead! Although it was irritating to do a mile warmup only to scuttle back to the parking lot because of thunder and lightning, having the group run cancelled worked out really well...
Erin and I and our friend (who in addition to being a cool person, happens to be WAY faster than I am, probably the second fastest on our team, behind the girl who wins state championships like they're a walk in the park) decided to skip the gym and just do a night run. It had just rained and was nice and cool, and we went slow, so it felt amazing.
The first night run of the summer is always fantastic.
There’s truly nothing like the running community. As fiercely competitive as it is on the track, we are the most loyal and supportive people I know. Running has given me some of my best friends, opportunities and more life experiences than I can explain.

End of Week One
Friday: I didn't realize that mosquitoes come out even during heavy rain. My nice run on a new trail beside the river ended up with me speed walking to the car while my dad tried in vain to smack away the swarm of bugs from my legs. Needless to say, I'm covered in bugs bites and regretting my choice not to put on bug spray.
Saturday: Much better weather, but much more boring run. I had a two mile loop that I knew, so I did three of them until I was ready to fall asleep mid-run from the boredom.
But it’s so fun to get back in shape. The progress is so tangible, and week by week you can feel the improvement. Celebrate the longest run of X months, the fastest mile, the healthiest day, etc. Some days will inevitably be better or worse than others, and you have to do all the little things with even more of an emphasis. Enjoy that a slow run is still a run, and a step, no matter how small, is still moving you towards the eventual goal.

Days 3 and 4
Yesterday were the miles at threshold pace. I did the first one at around 7:20 pace, and then died because of the heat and could barely stay under 8 minutes...
What I didn't expect was for my legs to feel so dead after just a threshold workout. I woke up early to run this morning, and slogged through the my goal mileage at a snail pace. I need to figure out how to keep my pace where it needs to be when I run alone.
