After working so long with CGI now, spending a lot of mental effort creating scenes from scratch, I have a new found appreciation for photography. That power to capture something with so much detail and physicalness, texture, form, colour, pattern, all of which you kind of take for granted as a photographer. Creating something from scratch you get to be in control of everything, but you also have to create everything from the ground up, building its layers until it can achieve the same depth as something photographic.
This was even more apprent when I tried to edit the camera and CGI footage together finally here, the differences were quite stark and trying to meld the two together was hard work, and I took some decision to cut parts out of the final edit. I think I probably should have tried to edit earlier with something new and untested for me as this. They are two very separate mediums, especially in terms of the process. the CGI process is so deep you can get lost in it and lose perspective on the whole project. I think there;s still a lot I can do to improve upon this, especially in terms of the CGI stuff, making suitable stuff that melds with the footage I've already taken better.
Another thing that didn't turn out well was the body shots. I've had so much trouble finding a reliable, suitable model. In the end because I could not hire a projector last weekend, I hired one last minute and used myself. The setup was really awkward as I had to manage the camera, focusing and composing, manage the laptop playing the projected material, as well as the projector and where it was facing, projecting. In the end I managed to get some good shots using the camera hand held, and getting real closeups. Shooting from a distance where you can see a whole hand didn't go well with the video in editing.
In terms of how well my idea and concepts come across, it's hard to say being so close to the project, to stand back and take an observer's role. But I think I've got pretty close to where I was aiming for with the time and knowledge I had at the start of this process

Updated, with a working PC !
CGI Problems Solved
Finally got my PC working, turns out my RAM was bad, so using two of the 4 RAM sticks now, and it's working perfectly. Big relief after tearing my hair out trying to figure out what was wrong. I can go ahead and render my CAD/VFX scenes
Ryoji Ikeda Exhibit
This exhibition is now over, but this video overview is quite nice, if you happen to like Ryoji Ikeda’s work.
Great sound design!
