If you have any advice please message me or reblog it with some critisms! I’m always here for construtive critism. I haven’t written at all lately, much less fanfiction, so I’m sorry in advance if this is a little rough!!
"Father Conrad!" A small girl ran up to the priest in charge of the church orphange. Tears were building in her eyes, and in her grip was a muddy stuffed animal. The priest, Conrad, looked up from his book. After quickly looking over her, he shut the book and kneeled.
"Kate, what happened to Samuel?" Conrad asked, his eyes fixed on the muddy stuffed animal. The little girl, Kate, just sniffled in response. "Did you drop it in the mud?" Kate shook her head, snifffling more. Conrad sighed softly, "I'll clean him up, but then you need to tell me what happened, okay?" Katie nodded and held out her stuffed puppy, Samuel. Conrad gently took Samuel and picked up Kate, resting her on his shoulder. He carried them to the bathroom, where managed to get the mud off with a soapy, wet towel.
"Now I'll go put him in the dryer and he'll be all better, okay?" Conrad asked the little girl, who nodded that it was okay. "But now I want you to explain to me what happened." Conrad started to walk to the landury area, carrying Kate and Samuel.
Kate sniffled, but she had calmed down enough to talk. "Everyone else was jealous t-that I got a brand new t-toy while they only get u-used toys-" She sniffled again. "- So they t-threw Samuel in the mud, s-so he wouldn't be new anymore." Conrad sighed, he had been worried about something like this happening.
"I'll have a talk with all the other children," Conrad said.
"But then they'll be mad at me for tattling!" Kate protested. "I don't want them to like me even less..." She mumbled, on the verge of tears again. Conrad patted her head, making Kate look down at him.
"Katie, I promise they won't hate you, okay?" He told her, throwing Samuel in the dryer and turning it on. He set her down on the floor. "And they sinned Kate, jealousy is a sin. So they need to be taught or else they'll be sinners. If I don't talk with them and get them to repent, they'll all go to hell, you don't want that, do you?"
Kate shook her head quickly. "No! Of course not!"
Conrad smiled, "good, I'm glad." He patted her head. "I'll go speak with them. Samuel should be done soon, so just wait here for him. The dryer will bing when he's done, so pull him out then." He turned and started to walk out.
"Wait, Father!" Kate called out to him. Conrad stopped and turned his head to look at her, raising a brow as to ask her what she wanted. "Why did you get me that new toy? I saw one just like Samuel in the donations box but... you still went out and bought a new one, why?"
Conrad sighed, walking over to her and kneeling. "I got you the new toy because I wanted you to have somehing nice and special to bring you joy."
"But, don't you want that for everyone? Why just get one for me then?" Kate asked, tilting her head.
Conrad took a deep breath, thinking about his answer. "Because, later in life you're going to have to do something that's awful for the greater good, so I want you to be happy while you can." His face became upset, thinking about what he was going to make this precious little girl do.
"Something that's awful...for the greater good?" Kate asked, frowning.
"Yes, you will have to endure many hardships." Conrad nodded.
"I don't want to endure hardships..." Kate pouted.
"But it's for the greater good, Kate." Conrad chided. "If you do the job, you will save many lives."
Kate's eyes lit up, "really?" Conrad nodded. "So...so I'll be like a superhero?" Conrad smiled a bit weakily and nodded again. "Then I'll endure any hardships!"
A bing interrupted their conversation, Kate grinned and opened the dryer, pulling out Samuel. He had a few stains, but was relatively okay. Conrad frowned, "it seems like I couldn't fully clean him."
"That's okay!" Kate hugged his leg. "It's a gift from you, so no matter what Samuel's state is, he'll always be perfect to me!" Conrad smiled a bit and patted her head.
"I appriacte your words Kate, but I really must go speak to the other children." Kate released herself from his leg and backed up, waving as Conrad left.
As soon as the priest was sure he was out of sight and ear shot, he leaned against the wall, looking at the cieling. Guilt flushed over him. "Oh God, why make me do this? I understand the good scarificing Kate will do but...I also don't want to see her go." The priest let himself be taken over by sobs.
"You will endure hardships so others will not have to." Kate muttered these words to herself, in english. She repeated them again as she walked from the bus stop to the address Father Conrad had written on a piece of paper for her. Luckily for her, the streets were empty, so no one had to hear her talking to herself. "You will endure hardships so others do not have to. This is God's mission for you, do not think of it as a burden, think of it as your purpose."
No matter how many times she told herself this, she still felt scared and worried. She clutched the strap of her backpack, squeezing it to get her aniexty out. "Father Conrad chose you because he knew you can handle it." She took a steady breath, "don't prove him wrong." She glanced down at the address on the paper, turning onto the listed street.
Her stomach was still full of butterflies, but she ignored them the best she could. She walked to the gate of the house, turning and looking in onto her new home. Her heart was pounding in her chest, threatening to break out of her body.
Kate glanced up towards the sky, staring at the rising moon. "God, give me strength." She said, taking a deep breath. Kate readied herself, opening the gate and entering the property. She walked down the cobblestone path, glancing at the flowers and pretty fountains, all of which were illuminated by old looking oil lamps. At least the vampire den wasn't ugly, that's a plus. She reached the door and the small moment of relief went away. She grabbed the knocker, swallowing. The second she knocked on the door, there would be no going back.
She could run right now. She could run far away from this place and never return. But no. That would mean she'd failed God. She would have failed Father Conrad. She would fail her mission and purpose. And worst of all, she'd be putting others in danger. With her recharge in resolve, she banged on the door.
The door opened within moments and Kate stepped into the mansion. She glanced around the huge entrance hall, it was stunning. She was really at a loss for words. She had never seen such an elegant room. Beautiful chandeliers hung from the cieling, the floor had silky, spotless carpets on them. Two couches were on opposite sides of a grand staircase. But sitting in one of those couches was a black haired male.
All of Kate's wonder crashed and burned when she saw him. She cleared her throat, she was too afriad to say something. The dread of actualy being in the prescence of a vampire terrified her. She made eye contact with him. He had red, sharp eyes that were covered by glasses. He also seemed to be her age, but he dressed like an adult business man.
The vampire- at least Kate thought it was a vampire- stood. "Hello miss." The man spoke in Japanese. Kate was still too scared to respond. Reiji sighed, "she must not know Japanese, what a pain. Hello Miss." He switched over to English. Kate did understand him, she was just to tense to respond. He walked over to her, Kate watched him as he approahed. "My name is Reiji Sakamaki, and I am pleased to welcome you into our home."
Kate decided to just respond in English. She was not in the mood to explain how she did speak Japanese, but she was simply too frightened to respond. "Thank you Mr.Sakamaki."
"I see you only brought a backpack?" Reiji hummed as he glanced her over with judging eyes.
"I wasn't sure how long I would be staying, so I only brought a litte."
Reiji grinnned at that before returing to his usual stoic face. "Oh, miss, you won't be leaving this mansion anytime soon."
"I meant from this earth, not the mansion." Kate said in a matter of fact way. She put on a brave, I-am-not-afraid-of-you-or-death facade to make up for earlier. "But, I guess what you said is true."
Reiji was a little.... asumed, shocked? "I have never met a scarifice so accepting of their fate."
"Then they didn't except the purpose God gave them." Kate cleared her throat. She squeezed her bag's strap and tapped her foot. Her cool and resolve were fading a bit. "Now, may I go to my room? I'm very tired."
Reiji nodded, "Of course." He started to walk off, "Follow me, Miss.... I do believe I never caught your name?"
"Kate. Just Kate." Kate followed behind him, making sure to stay a few paces behind the vampire.
"Ah, hello them Miss Kate." Reiji hummed as they made their way down the hall. "You will only have a few hours of rest before you need to come down for breakfast and introductions." Kate stopped walking. She bit her lip, her mind processing what he just said. Introductions? She guess that was to the other vampires. But what really bugged her was breakfast.
"Breakfast...? It's seven o'clock sir, at night, are you having breakfast for dinner?" Kate asked.
Reiji continued to walk, simply saying. "My brothers and I prefer to stay awake during the night, so we eat breakfast when the moon rises and dinner when the sun rises." He stopped walking and turned his head. "Is there a problem with how we go about our daily lives, Miss Kate?" There was a warning tone in his voice that made Kate swallow nervously.
"No...of course not sir..." Kate said. "I'm sorry for asking." If Kate had to keep talking and being polite to vampires she would explode. She walked over to catch up. "Forget I even said anything." Reiji hummed, and just continued walking. The rest of their walk was silent, lucky for Kate, until they ended up at her room.
"Here is your room Miss Kate," Reiji pushed up his glasses. "Please be down for breakfast in about two hours." He walked past her, heading back towards the entrance. "What a bothersome human." Kate heard Reiji mutter in Japanese as he dissappeared down the hall. Once she was sure he was gone Kate sighed in relief and let her body relax a little. She opened the door and walked into the bedroom.
It was a nice bedroom, in fact Kate really liked it, but she would never say that aloud. It had a bed in a corner, a desk facing towards a window, a big dresser, and a nighstand next to the bed. There was also a door leading to who-knows where. It was nice and simple, it reminded Kate of the church bedrooms. Except the room was a bit bigger, and the furniture much nicer. Kate's heart panged, she bit her lip and gripped her shirt over her heart.
"This is your purpose..." Kate weakily said to herself. She sat on the bed, taking a moment to get her sad emotions out of her heart. She took off her backpack and opened a pouch. She pulled out an old, worn Samuel. She gave him a tight squeeze, taking a few deep breathes. After a few minutes, she stood and put Samuel down. "Can't feel sorry for yourself if you're busy..." She mumbled to herself, opening her bag and pulling everything out.
She then started to put all of her belongs away. She kept Samuel on her bed, out in the open. Kate didn't care if a vampire made fun of her for having a stuffed animal. Once she finished putting everything away, she glanced at the door. Should she go see what's inside? She probably should. Kate sighed and walked over, creeked the door open and peeking in. It was a bathroom. Kate sighed in relief and opened the door all the way.
"Should I get a shower before going down for dinn-breakfast?" Kate mused to herself. "First impressions are important, but do I really care about impressing vampires...?" She tapped her foot on the ground. "Although, I haven't showered all day so..." Kate walked into the bathroom and shut the door, turning on the water for a shower.
Kate had managed to get through the maze of a house and to the dinning room just in time for breakfast. She walked into the dinning room right at nine, she was worried she'd get yelled at for being there just at nine but she looked around at the chairs surrounding the table and saw that three were free. She assumed one was for her so that meant two more people still need to show up. At least she wasn't last.
But when she looked at the table again she paled. There were four young men sitting down, and if she were right and there were two missing, there would be six! Six vampres! The four already sitting at the table looked over at her. Reiji from earlier was there, along with a head red, a hat wearing boy, and a purple haired boy holding a Teddy bear.
"About time." Reiji said, gesturing to a seat. Kate bit her lip, she was here on time. She took a seat, not saying a word.
The hat wearing boy turned to Reiji. "Ne, she can't speak Japanese right?~" He said to him in Japanese. Reiji nodded and the boy smirked. Mister Hat turned to Kate, "I'm going to lay you across my bed and fu-."
"Laito!" Reiji snapped at him, quieting him. Kate sat in her seat, trying not to blush. She wondered if she should tell them she spoke Japanese, but she found no reason to tell them. Mister Hat or Laito, as Reiji called him, gave Kate a flirtly grin.
"She looks very cute... she'd be a perfect doll..." The purple haired boy piped up from across the table. Kate hid a swallow and a concerned look. But a doll? She found her hand subtly shaking under the table at being turned into a doll.
"All I know is that I'm loving her fucking tits!" The red head grinned, leaning closer. "Laito, would you say those a C or D cups?"
Laito hummed and leaned in close, examing her chest. "I'd go with C, they're not that big.~" Kate resist the urge to sheid her chest from their gaze. This was humilating, but she didn't want to break her cover. Maybe not knowing Japanese would make them leave her alone.
Reiji was fuming next to Kate. "Enough of this disgusting talk at the dinner table!" His voice was sharp, but not a yell. It still frightened Kate though. "Where is the good-for-nothing and Subaru?" Reiji adjusted his glasses and looked around.
"They must be ditching," the red head shrugged. "Which is good, because then there's a better chance I'll be the one she picks!"
Kate was tired of being in the dark, what did they mean the one she picks? She turned to Reiji. "Mr Sakamaki, what are you and your brothers discussing?"
Reiji turned and looked at Kate. "We were just discussing tonight. By the end of this meal you will have to pick who will be your 'handler'."
The red head hummed, "We ain't good with sharing, so if ya didn't pick one you'd be dead in a week. No one wins there right?"
"She can't speak Japanese, idiot." The purple haired boy said, side glaring at his brother. "But if she did understand that, the fear on her face would've been cute."
Years of fasting and doing other activies really strengthened Kate's will. Which was good because that was the only thing keeping her sane right now. Two of these boys seemed like fuck manchines, the other one wanted to turn her into a doll, and they all were vampires. The stress of the situation was getting to her and it took all she had not to scream and cry to God to find someone else for this mission.
"Be quiet, I am speaking to our guest." Reiji hissed and glared at his brothers. He turned back to Kate. "You can chose between myself, Ayato-" He pointed to the red head "-Laito-" he gestured to Laito, who waved "-and Kanato." He pointed to the purple haired boy who hugged his Teddy bear. "There are two more brothers, but if they do not show by the end of the meal, you cannot pick them."
Reiji cleared his throat and faced the tble. "That's enough explantation, let's eat." His brothers wasted no time in digging in. "You may eat, Miss Kate." Reiji started to eat himself.
Kate looked down at her food and ate a bit, her mind thinking about she was just told. I mean, out of the four it was obvious who she would pick. Reiji would be the smartest choice. She firmly decided on that as the meal came to a close. There were still no sign on were the other two brothers were. Once everyone finished, Reiji turned to Kate.
"Have you decided on a 'handler'?" Reiji asked her. The other three leaned in, grinning.
"I... I choose you Reiji..." It felt awkward saying it. The three brothers all pouted and got up, all voicing their annoyance as they left.
"I only came to this stupid breakfast to get a fucking girl." Ayato groaned as he left.
Reiji adjusted his glasses. He looked indifferent to being chose by Kate. "Well then Kate, I will show you my room, come." Kate nodded and stood, only freezing when he realized he spoke in Japanese. "I knew you could speak Japanese. Your shaky hands and blush gave it away when my brothers were speaking so lewdly to you." Kate bit her lip, making a mental note that she was no actor. "Anyway, come along." He started off and Kate followed behind, chewing on her lip. She was on edge now.
They eventually made it to his room. It was full of books and bekers, all of it pristinely organized. There was a bed in the corner and a set up of three leather chairs circling a small wooden table.
"Take a seat." Kate did as told. She shifted in her seat as Reiji worked at the main table for a moment. Reiji walked over with 2 tea cups and set them down. He off off and came back with a tea pot, pouring tea into both cups. Both the tea cups and the pot were gorgeous, Kate also bet they were porcelin. "Help yourself." Reiji said as he put the pot down and grabbed a book.
Kate already had the cup in her hand before he said anything. She took in a whiff of the auroma and sighed happily. She loved tea. Smiling to herself, Kate took a nice sip of the tea before setting it down. She sighed in content.
"So, Miss Kate." Reiji broke the silence, opening his book. "A trait I cannot stand in people is manipulation and decipition." He flipped the page in his book. "And you did that earlier when pretending not to know Japanese, so you could listen in on what we were saying- without us knowing." Kate could feel heat building up in her, was that from stress? She pinched her shirt and did rapid pulling out and in motions to fan herself. "Let this be a lesson to you, do not deceive me again."
A fire like heat build up in her throat, Kate clawed at her throat. "Water...." As all she managed to wheeze out. Reiji simply read. Kate stood, sweat dripping down her face. She looked around the room as saw a door that wasn't the one she came in. She ran over to it and opened it, revealing a bathroom. She ran to the sink and turned on the water, she angled her head so she could drink water. But it didn't soothe the burning.
"By the way, water doesn't get rid of it." Reiji said. Kate could hear the smirk in his voice. "Only time will get rid of it. And I gave you a strong dosage so it should last 2 hours at minimium." Kate turned off the water and fell to her knees, clutching her throat.
Maybe she did make the wrong choice.
