(A-Radio) Chile: The hungerstrike of Mapuche Political Prisoners in the Iglesias Case (112 days!)

Dear all, This audio is based on material from Voces de la Disidencia. Alfredo Tralcal Coche, Pablo Trangol Galindo, Benito Trangol Galindo and Ariel Trangol Galindo are imprisoned precisely in the jail in Temuco, Chile, since July 9th of 2016, accused of setting a church on fire with only one piece of evidence against them: the statement of a witness without a face who claims to have seen a truck similar to that of Lonko Alfredo Tralcal Coche near the fire. After one year deprived of their liberty, without evidence against them, without a set sentence or a reasonable date of trial, on july 7th of 2017, the comuneros decided to begin an indefinite hunger strike with the following demands: 1) fair trial within a reasonable date; 2) no to the use of the antiterrorist law 18314; 3) no to the use of witnesses without faces; 4) liberty under article 140; 5) repeal of the cautionary measure of preventative prison. (A-Radio) Reportback from Charlottesville: Unite the Right and the murder of Heather Heyer

Dear all, On August 11 and 12th, fascists of different stripes organized a rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, they called “Unite the Right”. Counter protesters and antifascists mobilized and managed to practically stop this ugly event. A fascist then drove his car into a group of counter protesters, wounding more than a dozen and killing Heather Heyer in the process. As Anarchist Radio Berlin we had the opportunity of talking to a comrade from the US who participated in the antifascists protests. We talked about the Unite the Right event as such, about the different forms of fascists gathering there, about the counterprotests, the tragic murder of Heather Heyer and the medic and trauma facilities made available by antifascists groups. Does one have to participate in metaphysical/critical philosophy outside of politics to be a valid anarchist? I pick up a lot of anxiety and troubling recurring thoughts in a lot of the side philosophy, and I just want to know if sitting that out is detrimental to participating in opposing state and class society

I don't think you have to. Anarchism is meant to be a mass movement, thus you don't have to participate in philosophical discourse to be a "valid anarchist". However, when you consider yourself an anarchist you might feel the need to engage in philosophical discourse to spread your ideas over time. I don't like, however, to mark anyone as an anarchist, socialist, communist etc.; one reason is that the terms were often misused and nowadays are mostly used for political, polemic purposes. It's important that you understand the underlying ideas of anarchism and support them.

Metropolises nowadays are a place of extreme reduction to the interactions relevant to capitalism. Human behavior is detrimental to the mechanisms of capitalism and thus dies off. People are reduced (and reduce each other) to mere automats; interaction between them is reduced to mere exchange. Things and people have to become economically measurable in order for the metropolis to work. Living Culture dies as well. Mainly it dissolutes into commercial mainstream culture. There are, of course, museums displaying the achievements of former times. But living Culture as a form of critical thinking and societal spontaneity disappears from the urban surface. It becomes an underground phenomenon. People in such a city are confronted with the back-breaking senselessness of their existence. They're unable to understand the machine they created. It's too vast, too complex to understand. There's no purpose in such a city.
