I scratched the back of my head. “Um, second then?”

“No,” he said, glaring at me. Considering he was (currently) a year old baby in a onesie with a teddy bear hood over his head, it wasn’t as intimidating as he’d probably hoped. “I have possessed many bodies over my lifetime, but none have been as useless as this.”

I supposed normal parents would be freaked out hearing that. But honestly, no matter how much I’d been ignoring the signs, I had known for a long time that something was wrong. But after a year I’ve had, the fact that my kid could now fully articulate what they wanted and had no qualms telling me was actually a relief.

Maybe I was the problem. I wasn’t ruling out the possibility.

“What were you before?” I asked. It only seemed polite.

His eyes narrowed. “I am what I have always been, even like this.”

“Okay,” I nodded, “What are you then?”

“A demon,” he said, “Has that not been abundantly obvious?”

My boyfriend didn’t go to university until he was 28 because he didn’t feel anywhere near ready when he was 18. He graduated with first-class honours, went on to do a Masters, and is now a history teacher. It’s so much more important to do things when you’re able to fully commit to them and do them to the best of your ability than to rush to do them by an imaginary deadline.

Here’s further awesome proof that cosplay is for everyone! Brazilian cosplayer Solange, aka Tia sol (“Aunty Sun”) has won the heart of the internet with her wonderfully accurate homemade costumes and convention appearances around her home city of Manaus, Brazil.

“A friend said that I wouldn’t have the guts,” Solange told BuzzFeed News. “I chose a character and had the costume made without saying another word.”

“I don’t miss a single event in my city. I’d really like to visit other ones, but have you seen the price of the fares?”

“I never thought that I would be well received among the young people, I’ve made a lot of friends during all of this.” Cosplay conventions have become a sort of a haven for Solange: “I can launch myself into the world of make-believe, where anything goes.” Her next event is coming up in December. “I’m finishing up the painting on my new cosplay, Granny Juju from Jorel’s Brother.”
