Book recommendation (tw/cw: suicide)
Afternoon hours of a hermit is such an underrated psychological thriller. Not many people have read it since it’s very new, but I picked it up randomly at the library and adored it. It was the first book I’ve read in a while because i wasn’t able to visit the library for some time. The story follows a trans writer named Dan. He receives a letter a few days before his brother’s 5th death anniversary that contains a photograph of his brother in a detective outfit. The story is a bit hard to explain, but it’s definitely very different from other mysteries because we already know his brother killed himself so we are not trying to figure out the culprit unlike in most mysteries this one has a more ambiguous goal for it’s main character. It has a dark tone and there is SH mention two times, but it’s not anything explicit. I enjoyed the fact that there wasn’t gore or a lot of swearing despite the subject matter. When he talks about writing it was very relatable to me who has written a few short stories and is in the process of editing my horror novel. It is not a romance at all, so no spice. In my opinion it’s a 13 and up as long as you are mature and are familiar with certain subjects. But that’s just my opinion and others might say 16+ because of its dark tone. 10/10 book and my second favorite book (my favorite it animal farm). Definitely will be reading again in a few months.
