Oh, Spoke..
the good news is that he died knowing exactly how loved he was. the bad news is: that's why he had to do it. the worse news is: that knowledge is part of what killed him.
i hope it brought him some comfort anyway.
this is literally what happened
watched DAWTDE a few days ago (it was an enjoyable watch), have a theory that hopefully fills the timeline inconsistencies between the two videos. Spoilers, obviously.
First, background. The 'world that doesn't exist' is the realm behind the yellow doors, the King in Yellow's domain. For the sake of brevity, I'll call it 'Carcosa' (whether it is or isn't, who knows. I like to think it's a projection of Carcosa onto the medium of Minecraft.). 'Carcosa' clearly is separate from the world with the yellow door, as seen by Avery's gamemode switching from creative to survival as he enters. D3rlord3's comments about how he "knows nothing about this place" further reinforces that 'Carcosa' is no longer a Minecraft world, but instead somewhere between Minecraft and the King's domain. Second, the timeline. It is stated, or at the very least suggested, that the laptop and world were both originally in D3rlord3's possession, got thrown in a storage locker, and made its way to Avery. This obviously doesn't make sense, because D3rlord3 was pretty much incapacitated after the whole infinite knowledge thing, and couldn't look away from the screen without debilitating pain. How and why would the laptop end up in a storage locker if D3rlord was in the world? How would Avery get the laptop, explore the world initially, and then a few weeks to a few months later meet D3rlord3?
The answer is that D3rlord3 was already dead IRL (or missing, or incapacitated, or held by the DMS) when Avery found the laptop. This explains why the laptop is in the storage locker, because all his stuff was cleaned out and put into storage after whatever happened to him. "Then how did Avery interact with him?". Remember what I said about Carcosa being a separate realm? It's not much of a stretch to assume that time functions differently there, especially with all the hints we get about the strange nature of Carcosa and D3rlord3's comment about how he's lost track of time sitting in front of the screen. Basically, Avery and D3rlord both enter the yellow doors at different points in IRL time, but end up in the realm close to each other in in-game time, allowing them to interact with each other.
It's also kind of reasonable to assume that D3rlord3 would know his fate because of the infinite knowledge, but not know when it will occur because he has no foresight within 'Carcosa'. I haven't really seen anyone else talk about time shenanigans within the ARG, but let me know what you think
d3rlord3 ♀️
Ik I promised some fluff, I'LL MAKE SOME SOON I SWEAR
My favorite retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice is whatever the fuck Avery and D3rlord3 had
And both Orpheus and Avery made one, fatal mistake when they were close to being united with the one they've worked so hard to search for.
Orpheus looked back.
Avery looked away.
I blacked out for a couple hours lmao. I love these two so much.
And I love how nothing bad happened to either of them… haha… ha
Got the drawing idea from @the-cactae
He's unironically so hopecore... I'll miss you D3rlord3 searching for a world...
(some art in between work/comms to celebrate the anguish I felt at the hands of wifies...)
"Be yourself."
One of my biggest takeaways from this story is that both Avery and D3rlord were able to defeat the KIY only by remaining true to themselves. They proved to be exactly the heroes we needed.
Avery is Wait for Me
D3rlord3 is Wait for Me (Reprise)
Avery: Derlord are you ok? Yes the world is ending but are you ok? Are you sure you’re ok? Can I come closer to you so I can make sure you’re ok?
At the cross roads we get a tad bicurious
(dawtde spoilers) hello slimeknight nation how are we feeling
Heres an alternate evil “what-if” scenario of that one scene i came up with the idea for like right now
Whatever you do at the crossroads. Keep going forward.
