I feel like Dean says to Sam ‘if you get blood/mud/crumbs on the seats, I’ll kill you’ it’s kind of more of a hangover from John, it’s what John would say if he was there. John “I wouldn't have given you the damn thing if I thought you were going to ruin it” Winchester. Sam and Dean have scratched their names into the car, shoved a toy soldier in the ashtray, legos in the air-vents, the Impala is their home in a way it wasn’t for John

Like, for John, it’s a car he bought to impress Mary when he’d just gotten back from the marines, it’s a relic of his life before, so obviously he wants to keep it pristine, just the way it was. I don’t think the Impala was ever home for John.

I don’t really have a point here, I just think it’s interesting. I feel like it’s a joke about John and a way of saying ‘be careful’ more than Dean’s real, legitimate need for Baby to be spotless

That car is a refuge for Dean, even more so than its been for Sam as well. When Sam puts that phone jack or whatever in her sound system, for Dean I imagine it feels like coming home after uni and your childhood bedroom has been turned into a gym.

For Dean, baby was refuge and constant, for Sam, Dean was the constant, even though Baby means a lot to Sam, it means so much because how much Dean cares for her.

John wanted her pristine to be a trophy almost, a goal to work back to what life was, while Dean wants baby to always be his safe space to go back to.
