replaying soma and it's such a good execution of body horror. you meet the monsters that are just you but not executed as perfectly and think "oh they're terrifying" but you don't know you're one of them, yet. you meet robots convinced they're people. the dead bodies of the people they think they are are only one room away, but the robots cannot be convinced that they are not themselves. you think "that's kind of sad."
and then you learn you are one of those robots. you meet a robot who knows she's a robot and has no patience for your existential crisis, who says you're made of circuts and corruption and that doesn't matter right now because we have to finish saving the piece of the world we can. so you reconcile yourself with it and move on, because what else can you do?
and then you learn the horrifying truth, the last piece of what you've become: you're not a robot that thinks it's human, you're a human corpse with a data chip shoved inside that thinks it's somebody it's never been. your name is imogen reed and you were a scientist, but that's not true because you know, you know, you know you're simon jarrett. you're from toronto in 2015, not...wherever this is in the 2100s. you know who you are. you can't be imogen reed. but you are.
and you still have to keep going. because what else can you do?
