Obligatory Introductiory Post

My name is Emery. My pronouns are they/them. I am 22 and very bisexual. I work for a regional theater company as a sort of jack of all trades. I have two cats who are basically my sons. Liking the color green, trees, fungi, and mountains is my main personality trait.

Now I would tell you what this blog will be about but that would require me to predict my hyperfixations which change like the weather.

I want to rant about the way we are talking about the fan service in Gameoverse. Because at this point, the fan service doesn't even bother me. I thought it made sense because that is in basically every video game and sometimes, things put in shows aren't necessary reflections of what is good or bad. They are reflections of the way things are.

No what bothers me is I see people either defending it saying "Women in bikinis getting tied up isn't inherently sexual. Just by saying g that it's sexual makes you the one sexualizing them." Or "Yes it is fan service but who cares? They are hot. Why is sexualizing women all that bad." Granted I've seen most of these takes on YouTube shorts so I'm kinda looking in the wrong place if I want any real discussions about it.

The next part has mentions of sexual assult so be warned before you read it. Tldr stop telling people who have been traumatized that their take on a matter that involves their trauma is morally incorrect.

What it reminds me of is a conversation I had with this guy I dated. He had various tapestries and figurines of these barely clothed anime women in compromised positions. At first it didn't really bother me because I guess I was so used to constantly being exposed to that kind of thing and I was looking at him through rosed colored glasses but after a while, it did. Partially because I started to realize it should have told me from the start exactly the kind of person he was. I mean at this point he had done things I now consider to be rape twice which I didn't realize at the time and the only time we spent together was when we were having sex. And we lived together for gods sake.

So one day I told him "these tapestries and figurines make me uncomfortable" and he said "well I wouldn't care if you had over sexualized men in your room" and I said "I mean that's a hypothetical that doesn't have any relevance here because I'm not doing that." So then he went on a rant saying things like "what you think the female body is inherently sexual?" And "well I bought these from women. You think it's bad that women are reclaiming their sexuality?" And "You shouldn't shame me for being sexual." I guess in the moment I didn't know what to say but this is what I think I would say now.

I think its valid for me to be triggered. Like from the moment I was born, I was told my value came from being a wife and a mother. Later, realizing I was queer and then trans, I kinda realized that disnt apply to me but I still wanted to get married one day. And I slowly realized that in order to get someone to love me, I had to sexualize myself. That I the value that the majority of my partners have seen in me. And when you sexualize yourself, men, women, nonbinary people, everyone take that as a "go ahead" to assult you. So I think its valid to be triggered when you are constantly reminded that having a female body makes people see it as an invitation to truly do some aweful stuff you.

So I'm not saying "cancel Glitch" because the fan service. Again, it's not the fan service that bothers me. Its the rushing to defend it. Its the rushing to make yourself not look like a total weirdo for liking it. It's the "you are morrally wrong" argument to the the people who have been sexualized their entire lives saying that they don't like it.

Also adding onto this. Like all of the content about GameOverse is about the fan service. Whether it was good or bad. Whether it was objectifying them or not. Like my guy. If all you have to say about a show is "sexy women in bikinis were there and I feel a certain way about it" that feels so dismissive of everything else. What about the voice acting? The animation? The theories? The implications of what makes a hero a hero and what makes a villain a villain? I liked it because I feel like the themes of morality have so much potential and I would love to see more discussions about that

The more I think about it, the more I believe the divide in the Good Omens fandom right now is a philosophical one.

We’re asking, where does the soul live?

For those who think that who we are is shaped by a life time of experiences. That we grow and change with each each heartbreak and trauma. We see the ending as something horrible. We’re witnessing the death of our beloved characters and we are grieving for them.

For those who believe in a soul, who believe that Asa and Anthony are Aziraphale and Crowley because of the something intrinsic that lives inside them, what they’re seeing is a rebirth and a second chance. In that sense the ending is beautiful. They both get exactly what they’ve always wanted. To live as humans without the pressure of heaven and hell. In that sense, the ending is a joyous one.

Sadly these beliefs are deeply held, often the roots begin as far back as our childhoods. No amount of screaming at each other about media analysis is going to change anyone’s mind. Please just accept that there are multiple ways that one can view the ending and that those who are upset are experiencing grief. This is an extremely normal and valid reaction to end of something so meaningful and should be treated with care.

That said, your grief is not an excuse to lash out and those who don’t deserve it.

Be kind to each other.

I understand not liking the Good Omens ending. But hear me out. In every season except this one (which if Neil Gaimen didn't do what Neil Gaiman did, we probably would have gotten this. But I digress.) We see Aziraphale and Crowley finding eachother over and over again through out history. I like to interpret the ending as that. They keep getting reincarnated lifetime after lifetime finding eachother and falling in love over and over again until the end of time. My reasoning for that is they quite literally began the universe with the big bang. Mass is not created or destroyed but converted. Energy is not created or destroyed but converted. Therefore they make up everything in the universe. Meaning they will always find eachother. I dont know if this makes any sense.

That being said they should have kissed. Like its kinda a crime that they didn't get to kiss again.

Like I’m sorry but that is literally their ESSENCE reincarnated into human form. Same souls. Same love. Same ridiculous little mannerisms. They found each other AGAIN. What more do you WANT FROM ME!!!!!!!!
