尖吻鯖鯊的游泳速度能達時速70公里，是游得最快的鯊魚。但牠們因被捕獵取鰭及肉，所以數量急降，保護等級被升級為與非洲象、藍鯨等相同的瀕危等級。現時並沒有法例保護或禁止捕撈尖吻鯖鯊。 shortfin mako is world's fastest shark; its speed can reach as fast as 70km per hour. 因氣候變化，鯨魚於春季的活動及覓食區域越來越接近加州的海岸，當區捕蟹業的漁具對鯨魚造成傷害的意外亦增加。為減少造成意外，捕撈活動會提早約三個月結束。 Climate change has push whales to feed closer to the California shore in the spring, and gears of the crab fisheries there is causing threats to the whales.
