This past week was really something for the books! I have daily routine that consist of studying for couple of hours and then I can freeform with my art! This is possible due to an awesome individual name Maria who lets me paint in her living room. I can't begin to explain the gratefulness i feel for having this beautiful individual in my life!
The week started of with a little trip to this awesome wholesale art supply store in Glendale Queens where they have A LOT of stuff! Last week I bought some textile paint and sweatshirts to see if it could be something for me? The paint reminds me of laquer but as far as texture its more like glue! the finished product is actually better then what i expected!
I did a long sleeve for bro and superDJ Boogie blind! its a beautiful thing to create something for someone and be able to deliver it to them right away! He seemed pleased with his piece!
This week has been a lot of studies and a lot of playing around with textiles but also canvases I'm hoping I can showcase at restaurant on 92nd street. I had a business meeting there this thursday! I went great! Don't wanna jinx it so to be continued! Thank you murph for the hookup! You're such a bro!!!
Friday saturday sunday was action packed with events! I don't think there is another city that can deliver as NY can!
Friday we went to see DJ Premier and Pete Rock go head to head in a DJ battle att BB king! I can't start to explain the intensity of standing for hours listening to your favorite records played by you childhood heroes! They started of with playing sample versa records that used the sample. after an hour or so they unleashed their massive catalogue of achieved greatness. Its surreal - You're standing there and the teenager in you that bought that same record is looking at two legends play tune after tune like its nothing!
This was a awesome event! I've dreamt of going to this showdown for years!!! For videos check my IG account out anders_malmberg_art!!
Saturday we went to the dumbo arts festival! I was feeling hungover at first but after sitting in the car watching the sun go down over NY the inspiration was there again. It seems like it never goes away here ,its always present even though sometimes it occurs in a meeting or a view. The highway that takes you from Queens to Brooklyn gives you a unique viewpoint of the city.
Finally at the Dumbo installment with 200 pictures taken from getting there I was overwhelmed with the beauty of the Dumbo area. Its really something special to see a city taking care and giving space for the arts! Great work great atmosphere! Out of all the work i saw i would say I was most intrigued by the glasshouse by the water. Its the same artist that makes the water towers that can be seen when you drive over the Washington bridge!
Reflection/Kolonihavehus by Tom Fruin and Core arts
I guess i arrived a bit late for the the event so some of the artist had packed up their individual space and left but still got a to see an abundance of work! Inspiring!
To finish this awesome week of I had the opportunity to paint live at El barrio pinta la marrqueta retina. An awesome event organized by the talented Gianinna Guiterrez! Thank you so much for the opportunity to be apart of the movement!
Just the location in itself was minblowing! We where a bunch of artists that joined forces under a bridge in the middle of a intersection in Harlem! You had body painting going on artists working in different mediums people selling their exclusive designs. The whole day this awesome latin band played grooves and then later a couple of DJs did their thing until we had to close down! For me its something new to paint live since its a process I usually tend to in the comfort of a home! The energy that comes creating something live is surreal, You are there in person but you are also affected by the people around you.The energy created from a joined effort is powerful to say the least.
Wonder Lee showcasing and selling here awesome bowties!
Ralph Serrano doing his dope body art!
Its not finished here! Ill post a picture of the finished painting in the future!
