Marine monsters have captivated the popular imagination for millennia, from ancient myths to modern legends – but none more so than the giant squid, one of the largest invertebrates on the planet, also known as the kraken, the polyp, and the sea serpent.
In this fantastic installment in their Shelf Life series, scientists from the American Museum of Natural History chronicle the voyage of an actual giant squid from New Zealand to the museum’s collection – including comical mishaps along the way, such as having to list the sea monster as “frozen seafood: sushi” on the customs form in order to comply with the limitations of bureaucracy.
For more, see Richard Ellis’s fascinating The Search for the Giant Squid.
So much ewww but also, so much wow

A week ago, I became mom to this feisty, happy little girl we like to call Eddie. Her first name Eliana is Hebrew for "my God answered me". She truly is our answered prayer ❤️ #parenthood #abadmama

Late night diggaz.
The Journey
One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice--
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do--
determined to save
the only life you could save.
