“Aurora’s Angel”

So I just read Aurora’s Angel by Emily Noon. It’s a fantasy/romance/adventure involving shapeshifters.

I honestly found the writing clunky and overexplained, and things got cheesy at times. But at the end of the day, it succeeded in making me feel a certain way that I actually wanted to make fan art! Like… my brain was rejecting the prose but my heart was just eating up the contents 😂 The adventures and chemistry between the main pair really kept me engaged!

I think the tone and vibes would have actually made for a good yuri anime, hence why I drew them in this style.

PS. This is a short side quest. I still have some Burning Kingdoms wips to finish in the backburner!

Tired and gay

In honor of the sapphic gaze and Malini being so down bad for Priya, I tried to panel some key scenes comparing how her view towards Priya changes as they grow closer through Books 1-3.

The way she went from thinking Priya was “unlovely and forgettable” in the beginning of The Jasmine Throne to “You are like ink and all I want is to make poetry of you” in Oleander Sword to “could stare at that face for hours” is so funny/cute to me, but also heartwarming. 😆

It’s interesting how Priya is often mentioned to have no sense for poetry. But I find her use of magic and flowers when it comes to Malini nothing short of poetic, sexy and romantic. Honestly loved the kinkiness between these two after some time and knowing each other 😆

I just read The Jasmine Throne and the entire Burning Kingdoms trilogy by Tash Suri! I’m filled with inspiration to make concept art and visualize the words from the book.

What a wonderful, immersive political fantasy with a deeply moving love story.
