The Elements of the Fingers and Their Powers in Healing
The hand has five elements, each bound to one of the five sacred elements. I do plan on making a post on the elemental powers in magick but this is also a good place to start. The five elements each have their own specific patterns, and I've seen some old books speak about using two fingers to cast a circle, that being the middle and the ring which I will propose my idea in the following post. Without delay, let's start.
There are two hands, one is generally receptive (being the hand that receives or the submissve hand, this for right handed people is the left hand, for left handed, the right and for ambidextrous the hand that is less used), and the dominant hand (the right hand for right handers, the left hand for left handers and the most used for ambidextrous).
The left hand is generally used for receiving energy, banishing energy (removing illness, bad luck, curses, hexes or infirmity as will be discussed), as well as gathering energy of the darker variety, being used for baneful magick.
The right hand is used for projecting energy, placing energy and all round gathering and directing of energy.
So in the case of a healing, you would use the submissive hand to remove the energy of the illness, and the dominant hand to remedy by placing energy.
Note - it is of utmost importance that whenever you remove energy, in any circumstance not just healing, that you replace it with energy. Otherwise it creates this weird vacuum type thing and the energy from the outside regions fill it up to maintain equilibrium, so essentially - to avoid less favourable energy coming in, fill it with better energy directly after the healing.
The Fingers
The thumb relates to the element of earth and is good for all matters related to the earth, in magick and healing. Furthermore, the thumbis used for blessings of all sorts and can be used to sign symbols of blessing and protection (such as a cross) on the head and nape of the neck.
The Index Finger relates to the element of air, and all virtues thereby. It is also a finger used in cursing and it makes sense with the element of air being able to cover long distances and the ability to manipulate the mental realms in its grasp.
The Middle Finger relates to the Spirit, the spirits, the working and conjuring of spirits of the banishing of spirits. This is one of the fingers that relates to circle casting in some of the older books I've read and it makes sense considering its association with the spiritual energy.
The ring finger is related to water, and all powers of association (including psychic and spiritual perception and ability, making it an apt finger to use alongside the middle finger in the creation of a liminal space for spell work.)
The Pinkie is last, and this relates to the powers of fire and potency, and all other virtues.
Healing by the Hands
All have the capability, less have the aptitude. My ma taught me growing up that witchcraft was a path you were born into, not out of coincidence but out of the destined unfolding of your life. What this meant was that if you had the capabilities, and the gifts or some form of link to it, you would be brought to it in your time, and that it was up to you whether to take it. So that formed a major part of my thinking, that if you came to the path in some way, or rather that it came to you, then that would be something meaningful, representing that it was something that you were meant to undertake at some point. So if you're a novice witch that came across withcraft and felt a true affinity to it, then consider that your invitation to learn the mysteries.
The first point shows it, everyone has the capability to heal by the hand but less have the aptitude, that being the ability to learn, to apply and to do so with success. It is the duty of the witch to learn, and from there apply and create a change. I'd recommend the reading of the "Thirteen Powers of a Witch". Its the same as being taught how to swim, some are going to take it on more seriously whereas others may not have a liking or preference to it.
Now let's start.
It would generally begin by a removing of the detrimental energy with the submissive hand, this could be stroking magick (in which it should be noted that movements be made toward the feet to send it away), placing the left hand on the ailing body part or the simple method of sign magick, drawing a x, thereafter drawing a cross + to place the healing energy.
The ailment could be imagined as a sort of black fog, a clump of energy that has been stale or attached itself to the patient. We're looking to remove this energy or at least neutralize it to promote better healing.
The dominant hand is then applied, drawing the appropriate symbols, or simply visualizing that the energy has been replaced with something more useful.
General signs to look for energy channeling is heat in the hands, tingling, coldness. Something to look for in the patient is sensations of warmth, electricity etc.
I will make a small post detailing some chants that can be used.
Always bear some form of protection, especially if you're drawing the illness into yourself to transfer it. Never let the illness go above the elbow.
