SPARKS @ PALAIS THEATRE MELBOURNE

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS • Firstly, so glad I got middle row seats, even if they were a little back. I could get the proper scope of everything. • VERY pleased to get Reinforcements. Literally one of the songs I’d been manifesting (Don’t Leave Me Alone With Her Would’ve been killer, too, guys. Just saying) • We got SHERLOCK HOLMES?? AND MICKEY MOUSE? Two Angst songs??? HELL YEAH • Russell’s vocals were AMAZING. Still kicking it like it’s 1976. • Ron’s Let’s Get Funky performance. That killed me 💀 Just the straight deadpan expression and voice, then Russ coming in to side step with him. Definitely the weirdest (good) live music experience thus far. •PORCUPINE! Didn’t expect that one! •A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE THSJSHGJSJD. That was one I’d HIGHLY hoped for. AMAZING. • Oddly enough, hearing JanSport Backpack live has made me warm up to the song. •As expected, the entire theatre was seated up until Music That You Can Dance To. Then it was a display of flailing arms and singing. • ‘When Do I Get To Sing ‘My Way’ 🥹 I had a little moment of panic when I’d thought it was Call Girl from FFS 😭 • NO. 1 SONG IN HEAVEN SHUFFLE DANCE • Russell’s yap about our ✨bin chickens✨ and cockatoos (go to the countryside next time, Russ. You’ll see plenty of bin chickens) • Can I Invade Your Country? YES 🫵🏻THE SONG I WANTED THE MOST 🛐 As soon as they walked off stage and teased the end of the show, and then an acoustic guitar was being set up, I was ecstatic. Loved the extra little instrumental bits. Overall, the show was amazing. Sometimes it was a little hard to hear Russell over the band at first, but I think it was fixed throughout the show and became a bit more balanced. Got a massive haul of Sparks merch (from the theatre and a store just down the street), as well as a bunch of other records. Looking forward to seeing where their (eventual) 29th album takes them!
