Finally saw poto on broadway last night after dreaming of seeing it for a decade, and goddamn Emilie was freaking amazing. So glad she was Christine for my first time seeing it live.

Rebecca Luker, Christine on Broadway 1988-1991
( depicted with Kevin Gray (4), Steve Barton (5), Hugh Panaro (6, 7) and Cris Groenendaal (9) )
I think everyone is in shock over the news of Rebecca Luker passing away. She was diagnosed with ALS in 2019, and albeit a fighter, she and her husband Danny Burstein shared some impressively honest thoughts on the challenges they faced in 2020. I donāt have words big or deep enough to express the impact the column and the news has had on me. I can only mourn what the world has lost.

Ya know what. Imma say it. Women donāt need to prove themselves to be treated as equals. Yes, it is honestly wonderful and inspiring that a lot of women are making breakthroughs in STEM, in the arts/media/entertainment, in business and whatever other fields there are. I am also grateful for the women who fought for me to have rights to an education and who were the first women in their fields. I am also proud a lot of women can kick butt, can defend themselves and others, can do everything a man can do and better. But listen, I donāt have to be amazing to be treated with respect. I donāt have to be stronger or smarter than my male counterparts to be seen as an equal. I donāt have to be brilliant to be treated with basic human decency. I find a lot of āam I better than these menā sort of mentality can honestly stunt your growth in a way because itās all about comparison. I understand in a lot of fields and areas of the world and our country that you have to be the best to be treated with respect and that sucks. But thatās now how it should be. Whether I am the first female oncologist surgeon to cure cancer or I am just the girl at the counter or just the stay at home mom, I should be respected (as in treated with decency, seen as a human being, not in a hey you should respect me no matter what), point blank period.

So thereās this famous phrase in Genesis, ā×× ××× ××××Ŗ ×××× ××××" (ālo tov heyot ha'adam l'vadoā), which means āit is not good for man to be alone.ā I was thinking today that it might make a nice Jewish friendship bracelet or wedding ring inscription or something. Problem is, if you try to split it up it becomes
×× ××× ××××Ŗ ×××× ××××
āExistence is not good.ā āMan is alone.ā
All the other ways of splitting them up are similarly awful. And on the one hand, I think this is really kind of beautifulāhow this phrase, which is about togetherness, is so beautiful as a whole but cannot be broken into parts without itself becoming splintered and distorted. The language mirrors the very nature of humanity that it describes.
But on the other hand it totally ruined my friendship bracelet idea so @G-d this is a callout post
