Pride of Britain
I’m feeling so absolutely proud of the company I lend my hours to, and the employees I share the workday alongside.
On Thursday of last week we received an announcement from a young man in the business, by letter addressed to us all and read aloud by our charming coach in the daily huddle, informing us that from tomorrow he will officially identify as a woman.
She will be using the ladies facilities and dressing as is appropriate for a female, from this day and onwards.
The first reason I am so overcome with pride is how casually my own team, and the company at large, have accepted the news. I have heard not one hurtful word nor ignorant comment, and I don't expect that I will.
Second, I am proud to be a member of a society where this can be the case; where a company is bound to accept such a change from one of its employees, and make all the necessary arrangements that allow the change to be as smooth as possible.
How many years have passed by before we could be this free?
Not only am I am excited by the possibility that everyone can be their absolute and whole self, whoever they may have been yesterday, but I am invigorated by this world in which gender need not be so rigidly imposed.
Diversity is widely and actively encouraged in my little patch of the universe, and I adore that.
Finally, I would like to express how proud I am of the young woman for how graciously, how bravely, how strongly she has introduced all of us to her new self.
Good work world.
