Thanks to the fan art by @/guitar_00000001, I imagined an AU where Shadow, who can't speak, only growl, communicates like this, in a transition between alien and Mobian.

Shadow's eyes are always empty, completely red, and they actually show his emotions because his face is relatively stoic. When he sees Sonic, his pupils appear more dilated, and when he feels attacked, his pupils become sharp like a cat's.

He does have a little mouth, something like Toothless, the dragon, but more like his alien version.
