What's your favorite part of Hannibal?
Hi anon!
Damn, it's been so long since I've read this book, but from what I (poorly) remember, the most remarkable parts to me were the beginning, showing some of Clarice's background after the events of silence of the lambs (a quite memorable scene to me was Starling remembering the call she got from a drunken Krendler hitting on her after the buffalo bill case). I love the scenes with Ardelia and there's a specific chapter where Starling is going back to the prison Hannibal was incarcerated in to retrieve some documents, I think, and she reminisces on their relationship, sorta, and the whole vibe of the chapter is so...grimy and eerie. Moreso when she finds out one of Dr Lecter's mentally ill prison mate was still living there.
And, aw, all the clannibal scenes, of course. I liked it when they showed how Clarice reluctantly opened up to and reminisced about her encounters with Dr Lecter years before. They're a lovely part of an otherwise very bleak novel, and it was great to (spoiler!!!!!!!) see they end up together in the end.
Now, if you're referring to the Hannibal movie, I gotta confess it's been even longer when I last watched it. I just remember seeing Clarice open the letter Hannibal sent her and feeling so exhilarated. I mean damn!!!! The dynamic duo was back, and I was so excited. I confess I also loved Mason's recollection of his attack by Lecter because it was somehow titillating to see Clarice react (again) to how monstrous Hannibal could be to people who weren't her. I feel like it was a nice callback to the nurse excerpt from the first movie.
Overall, I'm not very fond of the movie, and I don't think most of the clannibal fandom is either. Sure, we got a kissing scene but not much more than that. The book, however flawed, was way richer in details and gave Dr Lecter and especially our dear Clarice the ending she deserved. I recommend it to the fans.
I write huge responses, ya should know. Thx for the ask!
Feeling really bad regarding my mental health rn. Can somebody talk to me? If you're in the creep/Hannibal fandom or have trichotillomania that's a bonus
