We are spiritual economists.
This fall will be swallowed by politics, disunity and arguments. We all have thoughts about what results in growth or the direction that we should go. Remember where our loyalty lies. Where is the conversation, the passion, the urgency, the creativity for stimulating spiritual growth or changing our spiritual direction?
I have been hit by the idea of an economy. The supply and demand of incentives. The factors that allow people to florish. Proper oversight. Short-term investment, long-term investment. Spiritually, how come we do not develop our way of thinking as spiritual economist? Farmers know what see they plant. Businessmen know what they invest in. What their strategy is meant to accomplish. But yet as Chirstians we have oversimplified objectives and vague metephorical goals. What we are investing our lives in? I put the ideas of stewardship, God's buliding, God's field, God's kingdom in the same ballpark because they all takes in consideration the means and the end. If I tie the idea of being a spiritual economist into my identity, i believe it will bring confidence to my weaknesses. My weakness is neglect to meaningfully invest in others, and to meaningfully invest in God. Ignorance is not an excuse for a poor spiritual economy. Here are some verses I have been thinking about.
1 Peter 2:5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
God invested in us. The biggest investment for most people is their house. This verse tells what the blueprint of the house is to be. A mediator.
Matt. 13:45 ¶ “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls,
Spiritual investment seems to be discouraging at times because it is not instant gratification. But if I searched in the diamond mines of Hot Springs and found 1 great diamond, I would quickly say it was worth a few days of mindless toll. The problem is that we don't cherish spiritual investment like pearls but more like a good meal. If I have to wait to long, I am grabbing a snickers and moving on.
Luke 9:62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Any work requires the investment of time, resources, effort, energy and sacrifice.
Matt. 12:25 "Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand."
Economists understand what it takes to grow but also understand factors of recession. Disunity seems to be ignored and unity just hoped for. Unity is not a priority. Divide and conquer does not seem to be scriptural to me. But looking at our lives, what are at odds with another? Lives of unity are lives of growth.
Matt. 20:1 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.
Any employer at least tries to hire the best canidate for the position. Are we even looking to be employed? I would say that this verse means the work is for today. We are not the architects simply the laborers.
