This Dog Froze to Death in New Jersey
Much of the U.S. has been in a deep freeze lately. While most of us can just pop indoors and get toasty, it’s impossible for dogs who are forced to live outdoors to get warm. Every winter, many dogs suffer from frostbite and even freeze to death.
This pic may look like something you’d see in a sad movie, but it shows a real dog who was found frozen to death on a New Jersey street.
Since he had no identification, animal control officers could only speculate as to what happened to him. It’s likely that in an attempt to seek warmth, the desperate pup broke free from a chain, as many dogs who are left alone in backyards do. He probably died all alone, terrified and miserable.
No animal should EVER die in this way! Dogs are pack animals. They need companionship and deserve to be treated as members of the family. It might be hard to believe that anyone could really leave an animal outdoors in all weather extremes, but many people treat dogs like yard ornaments or cheap burglar alarms.
What You Can Do
While we can’t bring back the dog who suffered and died in New Jersey, we can all do our best to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Here’s how:
Keep an eye out for dogs who are chained or penned outdoors in your area. In a lawful manner, make sure that they have shelter and water that isn’t frozen, and politely urge their owners to let them stay indoors. If it’s very cold outside or if you see a dog who is being denied enough food, water, or shelter, call animal control or the police immediately. If authorities are unresponsive, contact PETA.
Take roaming animals inside until you can find their guardians or get them to an animal shelter. If strays won’t let you come near them, provide them with food and water and call animal control or your local humane society for assistance in trapping them and getting them indoors. Seriously, you could be their only hope.
8 vegetables that you can regrow again and again.
Scallions
You can regrow scallions by leaving an inch attached to the roots and place them in a small glass with a little water in a well-lit room.
Garlic
When garlic begins to sprout, you can put them in a glass with a little water and grow garlic sprouts. The sprouts have a mild flavor than garlic and can be added to salads, pasta and other dishes.
Bok Choy
Bok choy can be regrown by placing the root end in water in a well-lit area. In 1-2 weeks , you can transplant it to a pot with soil and grow a full new head.
Carrots
Put carrot tops in a dish with a little water. Set the dish in a well-lit room or a window sill. You’ll have carrot tops to use in salads.
Basil
Put clippings from basil with 3 to 4-inch stems in a glass of water and place it in direct sunlight. When the roots are about 2 inches long, plant them in pots to and in time it will grow a full basil plant.
Celery
Cut off the base of the celery and place it in a saucer or shallow bowl of warm water in the sun. Leaves will begin to thicken and grow in the middle of the base, then transfer the celery to soil.
Romaine Lettuce
Put romaine lettuce stumps in a ½ inch of water. Re-water to keep water level at ½ inch. After a few days, roots and new leaves will appear and you can transplant it into soil.
Cilantro
The stems of cilantro will grown when placed in a glass of water. Once the roots are long enough, plant them in a pot in a well-lit room. You will have a full plant in a few months.
What do you think about this whole Essena thing? Her latest videos are packed full of drama.
I’ll address this in detail so I don’t need to do it again. Yes she is coming across as a drama queen big time now. Creating a storm in a teacup. I was sort of on board until these recent videos were revealed. Now It’s just hard to watch. I do agree and support her views on being honest when using social media, Great! 🙌so why doesn’t Essena just step up and use her platform to be fully honest with her followers? Post more about ‘behind the scene’, veganism and real worthy causes. BAM 👊🏼 easy done… but then not quite as exciting 😉. It makes NO sense to quit completely (unless it’s a publicity stunt Ofcourse).I watched her recent vids with a friend and we both noticed lots of overacting and forced expressions to manipulate viewers (especially young naive ones). Disabling comments on her recent videos also feels strange to me, it doesn’t seem inline with her new ‘real and raw’ philosophy. Asking for donations from viewers to pay her rent after just returning from jet setting to LA and abroad for months? At the same time trying to make those who have small businesses on Instagram feel like fakes? All the while having the support of a wealthy family (u can see from background of her Insta pics etc)…It just didn’t leave a genuine feeling for me. Saying ‘Social media sucks!!’ then creating her own forum even though that’s EXACTLY what Insta, Facebook and YouTube is - forums! …um 💁🏼.
I watched a few videos and it’s clear she is still heavily craving what she is running from. Definitely needs more life experience. She is projecting her own insecurities and trying to make them everyone else’s. This only distracts from the REAL issues this planet is facing. I’m sensing serious rich kid problems here and a huge lack of gratitude for the opportunity she had in her lap. It’s just disappointing and confusing. I expected more from Essena and that was my mistake. It’s simple, use social media for GOOD, stop comparing yourself to others, stop competing with others and start using your platform to help animals survive, people get healthy and heal this planet. There is nothing wrong with using social media to enjoy ourselves, take beautiful pics, make money off ethical products and spread a great message. 💁🏼 However, there IS something wrong with encouraging our followers to give up social media just because we are burnt out from our own poor choices and lack of discipline surrounding it. USE IT FOR GOOD. Giving it up is a waste of our voice and will NOT help change this world. Social media will always be a fantastic tool to bring about positive change to this world! Without SM we are back to the dark ages 👎🏽so quitting it will NEVER make sense to those who genuinely want to heal this planet.
