Sacra di San Michele, Italy. The abbey was founded around 983-987, its heyday was in the c. 11th-12th. It blends into the steep environment creating a unique and wonderful whole. Umberto Eco placed his novel The Name of the Rose there.

FUTILITY
By Wilfred Owen (WWI soldier and poet)
-----------------------
Move him into the sun—
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields half-sown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.
Think how it wakes the seeds—
Woke once the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs, so dear-achieved, are sides
Full-nerved, still warm, too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
—O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth's sleep at all?

The Futility statue is a war memorial in Birkenhead, Merseyside erected to commemorate the 88 Old Boys of the Birkenhead Institute school who perished in WWI. Poet Wilfred Owen MC was one of the 88... he was killed just one week before the end of the war.
The statue was unveiled by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in 2019, replacing the original memorial on the school playing fields after the area was redeveloped.
Unlike most war memorials, the Futility statue was designed to speak to today's generations about the consequences of war, regardless of how justified it may be.
