Cabin scarian AU [sims au #2]
au cws: trauma, PTSD, nightmares, panic attacks, uncontrollable powers, violent visions, past abuse, past experiments, past kidnapping and imprisonment, paranoia
grian needs to escape. he needs to run away, somewhere where he won’t be found, won’t be tracked, and—crucially—won’t be around people.
after arduous search, he finds the perfect place: an old, slightly run down cottage off the grid, with no immediate neighbours, no phone signal, nothing. cheap for the lack of amenities and the extra labour of maintaining it that he’ll have to put in. which he’s perfectly okay with.
what he isn’t okay with is arriving to move in, only to find another man—one scar goodtimes—standing in front of the building with his own luggage, looking like he got (and took) the same deal.
and yet with nowhere else to go and the evening approaching, they both agree on a grace period to figure things out. one night, maybe two... as little as it takes to figure this out. it's only temporary, after all. it's fine.
except, as it turns out, they both find out that living together is not as horrible as they thought it might be.
even if scar is afraid that grian will find out about his past of being a superhero, nothing but a tool, providing performative deeds and fake huge smiles for the press that misbrands him a hero, learned phrases falling past his lips in a flawless narration that he blindly parroted out into the world.
even if grian is sick to his stomach trying to bury his own past, shoving empty walls and leather straps and pointless cries desperately deeper and deeper out of sight, even as they stubbornly bleed out of him through every nightmare and every flinch and every panic attack.
even if scar’s presence triggers grian’s horrible, disorienting, nauseating visions that he refuses to talk about.
despite all that, tentatively, surrounded by gentle rustle of trees and warm sunlight (and broken appliances, and low funds, and their own many, many missteps), they start to entertain the idea that maybe trusting someone with themselves might not be as damning as they once thought. even though their secrets colliding might lead to more trouble than either of them knows to anticipate (or has any idea how to deal with).
