Rest in peace Cloris Leachman (April 30, 1926 - January 27, 2021), seen here in her first film Kiss Me Deadly (Robert Aldrich, 1955). She was already a stage and television veteran by the time she appeared in that classic and peculiar film noir, having moved to New York after she competed in the Miss America competition in 1946 (she was Miss Chicago). Although she would win an Oscar for Peter Bogdanovich’s The Last Picture Show in 1971, she became best known in the US for her comedy work on television (for which she won four Emmys) and in the films of Mel Brooks. She never stopped working (287 credits) with two completed films yet to be released. She was a gem and will be much missed.
