Time stood still. Everything happened in seconds, and yet it seemed as though it was a lifetime. First Theo’s magic gave up, the light flickering away. He knew, he knew there and then that he wouldn’t live past this. He turned, his eyes broken as he looked at Mal. He couldn’t say anything, there wasn’t any time. But he hoped more than anything in the world that the look he gave the angel said everything he needed to. I love you Malachi. And then there was an astounding flash of light - frighteningly beautiful to any who knew what it meant.
Malachi saw it happen in slow motion and it felt like it took a century to get to Theo before he could drop to the ground. “Don’t you dare!” He put his hand on his chest and tried to heal him but he knew deep down in his heart that this wasn’t going to work. Mal looked up at the sky that had returned to its normal colour then back at Theo, all you could hear was Mal’s shaky breaths then his sobs. “You can’t leave me too.”
