According to Sahé Cibot of Shibuya International, within an article published on July 9 and posted on Zoo Le Mag’s website (a French magazine centered on comics and the arts), Astro Boy Annee Zero is now planned to have a release within the first half of 2020. Annee Zero had previously been planned for a July 2019 release.

The scenario for the first volume has already been written, and the drawing “well advanced” according to Jean-David Morvan, who is writing Annee Zero.

Makoto Tezuka, Osamu Tezuka’s son, is overseeing the making of the comic, saying that he’s “scrutinizing the development with real constructive returns” of Annee Zero and also told the team making the comic “do not do what has already been done”. “Makoto Tezuka was very clear,” says Jean-David Morvan[.] [H]e told us: “my father [Osamu Tezuka] has always been original, do not do what has already been done”.

Astro Boy Annee Zero is a French comic made in collaboration between Shibuya Productions and Michel Lafon. Jean-David Morvan is writing the story, while Gerald Parel is drawing the comic and Guillaume Martinez is assisting with storyboards and sets. It is not known currently whether the comic will be translated into other languages at this time.

Shibuya Productions posted a summary of the comic’s plot on their website:

“The robots, guided by an overpowered artificial intelligence, have won the war against humans and have become the dominant species on the planet.

During the last fight, Astro sacrificed himself but thanks to professors Tenma and Ochanomizu, his creators, his spirit was preserved. The two scientists gave him a new body but his memory was erased.

Today he is Tobio, an ordinary young teenager who does not even realize he is a robot. But the world has not forgotten him and he needs a hero again.”

On Astro Boy Online Forums, a user by the name of Dizrythmia shared two sales sheets for the 1980 Astro Boy series that were available at trade shows. They were made prior to production of the English versions of the 1980 series in an attempt to get as many licensees on board as possible in order to know that money is coming in for the production. One of the character arts of Atom has a copyright from 1982, indicating that these sales sheets originate from that same year (it is on the left page of the fourth image shared in the source links).

Of note in these sales sheets:

The synopsis on the fifth image indicates that the show takes place in 2033.

These sheets indicate that there’s going to be 51 episodes; there are actually 52 episodes of the 1980 series, but the English version combined the first two episodes into one episode. This indicates that the English version’s production staff knew early on that they wanted to combine the first two episodes into one episode.

Some characters have a different name in these sales sheets. For example, Shunsaku Ban, known as Mustachio and Daddy Walrus in the English version, is called Daddy Mustache in these sales sheets.

Perhaps of most interesting note: the description of Astro Boy in the third image talks about Atom fighting Blue Knight. Blue Knight never appears in the 1980 Astro Boy series. In the sixth and final image shared by Dizrythmia, character art of Blue Knight and Cobalt appear, indicating that these two characters may have originally been planned to appear in the 1980 Astro Boy series. Also, Uran appears in her 1963 series dress, and Skunk has an eggshell-colored face in contrast to his teal-colored face that he has in the 1980 series. It is possible that, while these English sales sheets originate from 1982 (the year that the English version debuted), that these sales sheets were also used in Japan prior to the release of the 1980 Astro Boy series on October 1, 1980. The visual design of the sales sheets would have been the same, but obviously the English text would have been Japanese text.
