Rakitin after taking Alyosha to Grushenka’s:
omg someone on Instagram has made English subtitles for the 2010 pairs revival of Roméo & Juliette, de la Haine à l'Amour / Roméo & Juliette, les enfants de Vérone! I only know of English subtitles for the original 2000/2001 French produciton, Russian and Hungarian are on Youtube.
they’re full mp4s of the proshot with embedded subtitles
the link to the instagram post is in the content source of this post and not here in the text purely so tumblr doesn’t block this from tags because omg i’ve been wanting to see mercutio’s extra songs with english subtitles
Ne me parlez pas d'honneur / C'est par amour que les hommes meurent
Tybalt - Roméo et Juliette: de la haine à l'amour (2001)
Costume details I noticed in Roméo et Juliette: de la Haine à l'Amour
I know I’ve told everyone about this, but the rings. Tybalt and Juliette wear matching silver rings on their right hand ring fingers, the dancer who is also Tybalt’s mistress wears a signet ring (red intaglio with a C in it) on her left hand ring finger, and the Nurse wears a silver ring on her thumb (can’t remember if it’s left or right though).
The women on Team Montaigu wear narrower sleeves that are generally gathered at the cuff and they show a bit more shoulder. Women on Team Capulet wear more wide, flared sleeves, and the ones that do have a gathered cuff have the cuffs pushed farther up the arm to give the illusuion of flared sleeves. Each team has a tomboy, and she dresses accordingly. For the men’s part, Montaigus have wider, more open collars than Capulets
Excluding the rings, jewelry characters wear seems to be inversely proportionate to how stable, comfortable, and certain of their place said characters are. Characters with noticable non-ring jewelry, from most to least, are as follows: (1) Lady Montaigu with three very thick necklaces, an enormous pair of three-tier earrings, and what seems to be gold ribbons in her hair; (2) Tybalt, with two gold necklaces, a pair of gold hoop earrings, and a braided cord bracelet; (3) Compte and Lady Capulet, with a jeweled chain and a two-strand choker of red stones, respectively; (4) the Nurse, with a sequinned (ribbon?) choker decorated with (tarnished?) metalic beads that seem to resemble flower petals; (5) Benvolio, with a simple gold cross necklace. The Prince and his huge status symbol silver necklace fit somewhere in here, too, but I’m not sure where.
Because the dancers’ ball costumes are additions to their default costumes, it’s easier than you might think to catch who is Capulet and who is Montaigu. For the men, it’s their pants and for the women, it’s their shoes.
Mercutio’s rainbow party bell-bottoms. That is all.
Tybalt and his dancer mistress seem to be in a state of undress during “C'est pas ma faute” when no one else is. Because nothing says Capulet like interupting your own booty call to angst about your shitty upbringing.
Tybalt takes his gloves off just before before “Le duel”. During “Duo de desespoir” the Nurse finds them, and at the end of the scene, she gives them to his mistress.
Neither of the title characters are dressed in their house colors during their wedding or their suicides.
“Roméo et Juliette: de la Haine à l'Amour” background events: Le Bal
Lots of things happen during the ball scene in RetJ. It’s a massive swarm of moving colors set to snazzy music you’ll never get out of your head, but it’s more than that, too. The whole scene is rich with character interactions that add to the story or are simply entertaining. A (likely incomplete) list of what happens is as follows:
Lady Capulet presenting Juliette to the Prince. The Prince in turn kisses Juliette on the forehead or cheek, it’s hard to tell since they aren’t in focus.
Tybalt seeing La Mort, recognizing her, wondering why she’s there, and then nervously running off to Juliette. Not in the background, I know, but no one is talking about it and that breaks my heart.
Le Poete dancing with the Prince’s date. The Prince himself is dancing with a Capulet girl.
La Muette stealing the Nurse’s dance partner. She seems pretty upset and you can her her yelling about it.
The Prince and Lady Capulet dancing together and discusing something over a dance.
Comte Capulet nabbing his wife back from the Prince.
Tybalt’s mistress striking up a conversation with a Montaigu man.
Juliette noticing Parîs was starting toward her and looking the other way. One of her cousins comes to her rescue and starts talking to him to distract him.
Tybalt talking to Benvolio.
Also not in the background, but La Muette and Juliette gossiping. I can’t figure out the first sign, but the second one means “ugly” and they’re laughing. La Muette also signs “Tybalt” right before he playfully grabs Juliette again.
The Prince and his date talking to a Capulet girl (but not the one he was dancing with).
La Muette trying to calm Tybalt down after he recognizes Roméo. When she leaves him alone, he keeps staring at Roméo and yells about him being there.
Tybalt bowing to Parîs before going off to dance with Juliette again.
Not much else happens after “L'amour heureux” because that’s mostly focused on kicking the party crashing Montaigus out, but there is a bit of stuff Tybalt does and it really adds to the understanding of his character. He:
Shoves Mercutio away
Gets a bit more grabby with his mistress (having her show a lot of leg there, Prince of Cats)
Gestures to something with her. She agrees
Spends the rest of his time in the scene looking for La Mort.
It ends with a tableau showing Juliette reaching for Roméo, Tybalt reaching for La Mort, and the Prince looking on it all.
If you know what that first sign between Juliette and La Muette is, please let me know. If you have any screenshots or gifs of anything I mentioned or had your own observations, feel free to share.

BRO
Tom Ross as Tybalt in ROMÉO ET JULIETTE: DE LA HAINE À L’AMOUR
It's been a while since I posted anything but here we are again!. I made this illustration more than a year ago and it is very significant for me. I have dabbled in reading Russian classics and The Karamasov Brothers is a work of art! 💗💗So I have made a drawing of one of my favorite characters, Alyosha Karamasov.

My most stupid thoughts
Ivan K and the Devil
(I always envisioned the Devil as taking form in the darkness, as "magical" as it is compared to the mundane form he has in the novel. I like my Devil being creepy. With uncanny, non- human details)
