the red sauce that makes him go crazy
By hard fate was she born into such days, for she was gentle of heart and loved neither hunting nor war. Her love was given to trees and to the flowers of the wild, and she was a singer and a maker of songs.
You know for all her trauma and sufferings and tragic too early death, I can imagine Rían’s songs being powerful in a quiet, soft way, speaking about what matters in her time (and in Tolkien’s time and in our time) and touching people’s hearts with words of empathy and compassion and her deep desire to live in peace, not in war, and her anguish that she may not live to see a time a peace.
Which Tolkien character will you be handcuffed to for the day?

Okay my Ivan Karamazov Migraine Theory was something that I thought was totally just headcanon territory but... with the help of a digital TBK pdf and Command F, I was actually able to track down all instances in which a character mentions having a headache. It only happens to 3 characters actually! A few were from Fyodor Pavlovich while he was drinking, a few were from Mitya while he was stressing after the murder, and a good few were indeed from Ivan. See here:
And, to circle back to my original fascination with the theory, I think it's SO INTERESTING how every time Ivan has a headache. Smerdyakov is alluded to or directly mentioned in the same passage. In the first one, Ivan just got done with his yap about children. He says this:
"And observe, cruel people, the violent, the rapacious, the Karamazovs are sometimes very fond of children. Children while they are quite little—up to seven, for instance—are so remote from grown-up people; they are different creatures, as it were, of a different species."
It rings true with Pavel's upbringing, and with how, as he grew older and his unlikeable personality solidified, Girgory told him "you are not a human being." The others passages then mention Smerdyakov directly.
(also @karamazovposting I see how this could be interpreted at Bipolar Disorder. When Alyosha says "you are not acting like yourself." and Ivan is rambling for pages and pages? That could def be perceived as some kind of manic episode)
BUT this leads me to my last point... SEE HOW IVAN'S HEADACHES AND PAVEL'S SEIZURES ARE RECIPROCAL TO EACH OTHER!!!!! Every time Ivan has a headache, it's when Smerdyakov is either directly mentioned or alluded to. And all the seizures Smerdyakov has in the book occurs after Ivan's decision to leave to Chermashnya (what Pavel took as insinuation to fake a seizure and let Fyodor die, but ofc it turns into real seizures.) They are the catalysts for each other's ailments. EVEN AT THE END Ivan meets with the devil after Smerdyakov kills himself. And Smerdyakov killed only himself after meeting with Ivan....
Wow so this theory may have some actual weight. Lmk what u think!!!!
"Stop scrolling and please help me spread the word, because if I've landed on your page you're most likely either a black woman or someone who cares about black women and the simple phrase I'm about to share could help save a black woman's life.
Doctors are to black women what police officers are to black men. That may seem controversial but I believe it to be true and I speak from personal experience.
If you've seen this TikTok you know that a 2016 study showed that 50% of medical students and residents thought that black people couldn't feel pain the same as white people.
And we learned from this video that because of a 1999 study, to this day, there's a black correction factor for the creatinin levels in black people's kidneys, meaning we're less likely to recieve a kidney transplant if needed.
So if you go to a doctor, feel you aren't getting proper treatment or they refuse the treatment you've requested, say to them the following:
I will need you to document on record that you are refusing the treatment (or medicine) I've requested, and the reason you are doing so."
This works. I have used it in other situations. If medical staff have to document and take responsibility and be on the hook legally for doing shady shit they behave much differently.
If you weren’t already going to spread this advice because black women are at risk, then spread it because it’s applicable to everyone else as well, including you reading this.
But particularly women, and especially black women.
Pt: I will need you to document on record that you are refusing the treatment (or medicine) I've requested, and the reason you are doing so."
i think tbk is filled with a grief of never having known someone, and that makes sense if you think about the dostoyevsky's son angle
