moved to chile because he wanted to get out and see the world, fell in love with the diverse culture in valaparaiso. he genuinely loves how valpo simultaneously feels just like home and nothing like home to him. it varies wildly depending on where he is and the people he's around. he observes and celebrates most jewish holidays because of his upbringing, as he comes from jewish heritage. angel makes it a point to travel back to italy every year for hannukah, it's important to him that he celebrates it with his family. growing up the significance of his culture and heritage wasn't lost on him, his family made it clear that it wasn't something to be taken lightly.

his parents own a vineyard in verona, which is part of why he chose to work at isidora. he's also just developed a taste for wine over the course of his life and enjoys educating himself and other people on it. personally, he prefers rosé over white or red, but he can appreciate all types. frequently throws extravagant parties because he enjoys being surrounded by people. it makes him feel less alone, which is a feeling he's struggled with for a lot of his life. only the closest of his friends would know that the parties he throws are his way of trying to get people to like him. when his home isn't full of intoxicated partygoers, he can be found playing piano, writing music, or writing poetry. despite what many might think, he's rather quiet in his down time. knows how to play piano and has a degree in music, but never pursued it as a career. angel considers music his true passion, it allows him to express feelings he doesn't know how to put into words. he doesn't necessarily want to perform, though he will on occasion for smaller get-togethers.

"Ugh, and if there's anything I like?" Yaz gushed, giving her glass a slight swirl while looking up at Angel with her pair of brown hues. "It's a good dry wine. So underrated. So classic. Do you guys sell this bottle at the winery?" And naturally, that's where he worked, which is what led to them bonding over their mutual love of wine as they spoke.

With a sigh, she shook her head. "No, no, nothing really to talk about. Just...growing pains, you know? Relocating to a new region isn't exactly something someone teaches in school...but thanks to the kindness of people like yourself, it's been made all the more better. I can't thank you enough, especially for inviting me to something like this. This is all...fantastic."

"we do, but i'll warn you in advance, it's on the pricier side. i don't put out a wine like this often, i guess you could say i was just in an extravagant mood tonight." angel didn't tend to drink cheaper wines in general, but he also didn't usually break the bank on it either. he had taste and in his mind sometimes the more expensive wines were worth indulging in. just not on a regular basis.

"and how have you been finding valpo so far? in general?" he asks, giving her a genuinely caring look. "you really don't need to thank me, you know. your presence is always welcome here. inviting you is the least i could do and it helps that you make for good company."

being unemployed meant freya was out for most of the day while the kids weren't in school. whether it meant doing errands or just trying to get out the house so they didn't go stir crazy, they were still a busy bee. as soon as freya had figured out rania would be home early tonight, they knew they wanted to try and make dinner special, something to soothe the burn of the recent unemployment. " what's the best wine to make my wife happy ? " they start, realizing how insane they probably sound, " okay — sorry, new question. what wine do couples usually pick up ? "

he can't help but let out a small laugh at the question, not out of malice but of amusement. it's sweet, that this woman is trying to find something her wife will like, but angel just didn't expect to be asked that outright. "i would recommend a white wine, maybe a moscato? unless she, or you, don't like wines that are on the sweeter side." he suggests, figuring that's probably a good place to start.

hari doesn't know how to react when people welcome them kindly. it throws them back a bit. hari, quite literally, steps back a moment before a curious eye looks towards what they're doing before stepping back completely. they put their hands behind their back and look around at all the wines. they didn't drink much, didn't have time to really. seemed like their life was constantly on hold to act like their age but by the time they were meant to it was too late. he had already grown up. it was odd now. "uh, one of my coworkers is retiring and i don't know what kind of wine they like but i think something red?"

angel takes into account the reaction of the other person, making a mental note to tone his demeanor a little. the last thing he wants is to make someone else feel uncomfortable, even if it was unintentional on his part. he didn't really need to do much besides helping this person find a suitable wine anyway, his job description didn't say anything about making friends. plus, not everyone liking him was just a face of life. he offers a smaller smile before his inquiry. "do you know if they prefer dry or sweet wine? do you have a budget in mind?"

angel liked to browse the local flower shop when he could, he sometime kept the blooms. he found that they livened up the space, made it feel just a little bit more homely. it seemed like having something alive in his home, besides himself, provided him with a sense of comfort. the ability to which he was able to keep them alive was questionable, but he did try.

"do you have any plants or flowers that are lower maintenance? i'm only just starting to keep plants." he asks the clerk and it's mostly the truth. upon looking at the other person, he realizes that he recognizes him, he's a face angel has seen at a party. "haven't i seen you before? you look familiar."

With tackling her first week in the country, complete with securing a job that granted her the freedom she was looking for, Yaz was now looking forward to developing more friendships and seeing what the beauty of the region had to offer. Accepting the invitation to these larger get-togethers was one step closer to doing just that. With the vibrancy of the region, she looked forward to getting to know the vibrant array of people who lived here as well.

"Oh, hi!" She greeted kindly, taking no offense to the male who greeted her with a kiss to the cheek, repaying him in kind. "Thank you again for inviting me. I really needed to get out of the house. It's been...such a week." She admitted with a small breath, taking a moment to move a stray hair away from her face. "How are things for you? This red is fantastic, by the way."

he smiles as she praises his choice in wine, he of all people knows that not everyone has the same tastes. that's why at his parties there's always at least one red, white, and rosé, something for everyone to enjoy. personally, he's been sipping on a white for most of the evening, a deviation from his usual choice.

"i'm glad you like it! it's a cabernet sauvignon, year 2020, from napa." he informs her, not that the information really matters. angel genuinely is happy that yaz decided to come today, while he is enjoying himself he's finding that he doesn't recognize a lot of the faces here tonight. "i've been good, work has been steady, but it usually is. i'm sorry to hear you've had a rough week, do you want to talk about it?" he hopes she doesn't notice how he quickly steers the conversation away from himself.

"buenos dias!" is the friendly call that comes from angel as he hears the door of the winery open. even when there isn't an event like a wine tasting or something going on, he's gotten well-accustomed to customers coming in, whether it's out of curiosity or for something specific. he was in the middle of taking stock though, as they had just got an imported shipment.

"i will be with you momentarily, one second please." he tries his best to finish counting the case of wine bottles, though he know he'll have to do it again later because his counting was rushed. putting down the notepad he had in his hand, he approaches the person who came in, a smile on his face to greet them. "how can i help you today?"

when victor drinks it's solely to get fucked up, so the heavily stocked wine cellar in his basement is probably the most pointless thing he unwittingly inherited but can't sell since he knows that no one else on the planet would put up with bryce being both barely employed and glee obsessed in their living room at eight in the morning. victor is wonders if he maybe doesn't give himself enough credit for how much of a good person he is. he obviously has the patience of a saint.

he takes out his phone as he waits for the store attendant to appear. ( see ? patience. he deserves a medal, honestly. ) victor greets him with a nod when he arrives at the counter. "i've got tons of wine at home," he explains, flipping his phone around to show him photos of some bottles. "and i'm not gonna drink any of it. can you tell by looking at these if they're worth anything ? some of them look really old in person. like, a-rod probably hadn't touched a steroid in his life when some of these were poured out of the barrel," he elaborates, "or, i don't know, however it is that you make wine."

angel assesses the other, looking him up and down before he answers. he doesn't see many younger people in his line of work because, well, young folks don't seem super interested in wine for the most part. it's also not necessarily in his job description to do appraisals on wine, but he certainly can with the amount of knowledge he has.

"i can, but i am not going to buy anything from you." he answers, feeling like he gave a reasonable stipulation. he's never bought any wine for the store that wasn't from another winery and he's not about to start now. it feels like it might ruin the reputation of the business to all of a sudden being buying wine from whoever might walk in. "i will warn you, the age of the wine does not indicate it's quality. it's about the year, the location, the grapes. old wine doesn't automatically mean good wine."

angel hosted parties at least once a week, they were his version of an escape. it felt easy for him to put on a façade and be this energetic, outgoing, life of the party version of himself. he could easily hold a conversation with a complete stranger, it was one of the things he excelled at. it was always a point of his that no one at his parties felt left out or unwelcome, he personally made sure that everyone was having a good time.

tonight, he recognizes that a friend he invited to this party, yaz, has made an appearance. once he can finally break away from one of the groups he's been socializing with, he makes his way over to her, grateful for at least one familiar face. he greets her with a quick peck on either kiss, a common greeting in his home country.

"yaz, i'm so happy that you could make it! how have you been?"
