“i think i have both, have a seat,” she said, gesturing to the red bean bag. “hope this is soft enough for a broken ass.” she didn’t normally let strangers in, but she had seen the brunette around the laundry room before.
“You were warned,” Cricket huffed, dragging an intoxicated tourist out of the Cat Scratch by the scruff on his neck. “If you want to watch the show, you keep your hands off the girls.” Between pleas and threats, the middle-aged man managed to land a kick to his shin that had his jaw clenching in pain. “You come here again and I’m going to hogtie you with that tacky Hawaiian print shirt and throw you in the Bellagio fountain–” Cricket shoved the man onto the pavement and watched as he promptly threw up. “I fucking hate Vegas,” he mumbled to himself as he rooted around in his pocket for a cigarette.Â
“need one?” angel offered, fishing a pack of camels out of her pocket with her free hand. she had overheard the scuffle on her way home from the local convenience store, a cloth bag full of food draped over her shoulder. “i can give you a light if you hold my groceries, it’s in the other pocket.”Â
Chris lifted his gaze to her and offered a sickeningly sweet smile, capping his flask. “Not at all, miss.” he mused, carefully placing the container back in it’s previous hiding place. “Is there somethin’ I can help you with?”
angel bit her lip, his smile sending a shiver down her spine. “i don’t normally believe in this kind of thing,” she said stepping forward, her gaze drifting to the bible tucked under his arm. “i guess at this point i need something to believe in,” she replied, finally returning his gaze.Â

“my grandma really loved curtis lee,” she replied chuckling. “but all the boys back in harlem thought it was a stripper name.” she laughed. she paused, studying sabrina’s face intently. “hey kid, don’t i know you?”

He doesn’t particularly care who sees him at this point. Normally, Chris had a habit of upholding the holier than thou act any time he was outside of his room at the Starlit. Tonight, though, he casually opens the bible that had been tucked his arm, and removes the flask tucked into it. No one ever bothered to question why he never opened it, and even if they did, he wasn’t particularly sure they cared, either. Taking a long swig from the small container, he closed the book and tucked it back under his arm, leaning in the flickering fluorescent light of the sign outside the motel.
the cool nevada air stung angel’s cheeks as she walked to the entrance of the motel; her eyes flickering between the starlit neon sign, and the figure underneath it. “is this a bad time?” she asked, watching him intently.

- angel was is 28 and lived in the streets of harlem since she was 16. she was a runaway and got in with the wrong crowd.
- witnessed the death of her lover after a drug deal gone awry, he was shot by a rival dealer.
- fearing for her life, she ran away to vegas to go into hiding. she resides in the motel for the time being.
