Sometimes I mourn the version of me I could have been had I just picked a different group in 10th grade drama class.

Maybe then I wouldn’t hate myself just for being me and not anyone else but.

Maybe then I wouldn’t hear your friends taunts every time I stare a bit too long in a mirrors.

Maybe I wouldn’t almost have a panic attack every time my boyfriend asks me about one of my interests.

Maybe the me you knew wasn’t really me, and maybe the me now isn’t either.

Sometimes the duality of being hated so strongly by the last person who made me feel this just for being me and the feeling of him loving me so strongly and deeply threatens to pull me apart. Sometimes I wonder if I just let too much slip that maybe it’ll end up the same. I feel the weight of who I was as a child and young teen threaten to destroy me from the inside because I just wish so strongly they could all see who I really was. But then I remember that that’s why they hate me in the first place.

How do you survive wanting connection and friendship and friends who are emotionally mature enough to handle you expressing something that they do that hurts and isolates you from them and others but not having that and instead being forced to apologize to THEM because it made them upset when you just mentioned it kinda sucked but that it was okay and you hoped they had fun and you’d talk later because that was “attacking them” even though you’re just tired because it’s been three years of the same shit 🫶
