Me: *becomes vaguely aware of an interesting new topic*
Me: I should write a novel about this
Might fuck around and write nineteen thousand words in the span of a single thirteen hour period
What’s the point of punishing ourselves for coming up with new WIP ideas every three minutes when we can be proud of our creativity and comforted that we’re never going to run out of ideas?
Unknown
“I’m finally going to write! I have a great idea!”
LAUGHS LOUDLY
OK but like… first sentences don’t have to be there forever. I cannot begin to count the number of times I’ve started a story like:
And just write the ideas down until the story starts to shape itself. Then when you’re ready, go back and delete everything before the point where the story actually starts.
Writing yourself into an idea is a time-honoured technique, and it works.
What do you call a writer who has never had anything published?
A writer. Don’t forget that.
me, with a vague plot idea, 1 (one) character name, and an outline that consists of mostly question marks:
Y'know, I'm really loving the return to a "tropes are good" mindset. Embrace the cliché. Use the overused. If it makes you feel good to read and write, don't stress if it's not completely original. It's so much more fun to not agonize over having to make every aspect of a piece revolutionary
My mood currently.
yeah i have ocs that have long and complicated stories, no i can’t put those stories into words and make them comprehensible. we exist
writers:
break up your paragraphs. big paragraphs are scary, your readers will get scared
fuuuuck epithets. “the other man got up” “the taller woman sat down” “the blonde walked away” nahhh. call them by their names or rework the sentence. you can do so much better than this (exception: if the reader doesn’t know the character(s) you’re referring to yet, it’s a-okay to refer to them by an identifying trait)
blunette is not a thing
new speaker, new paragraph. please.
“said” is such a great word. use it. make sweet love to it. but don’t kill it
use “said” more than you use synonyms for it. that way the use of synonyms gets more exciting. getting a sudden description of how a character is saying something (screaming, mumbling, sighing) is more interesting that way.
if your summary says “I suck at summaries” or “story better than summary” you’re turning off the reader, my dude. your summary is supposed to be your hook. you gotta own it, just like you’re gonna own the story they’re about to read
follow long sentences w short ones and short ones w long ones. same goes for paragraphs
your writing is always better than you think it is. you just think it’s bad because the story’s always gonna be predicable to the one who’s writing it
i love u guys keep on trucking
All excellent advice!
I can’t stress the paragraph thing enough.
I’m generally all about writers doing their own thing but long paragraphs make it IMPOSSIBLE to read (for me at least) no matter how much I want to.

hi! lately i’ve been messing with some things with my blog and wip and i’m getting ready to do a sort of re-introduction to writeblr.
please please please reblog this if you’re an active writeblr so i can check you out!
feel free to drop the link to your wip as well :)
interested in (but not exclusive to following) wips about: angels/demons, anything supernatural (love vampires as a plus!), royalty, adventure (similar to LoTR), and just anything fantasy.
lgbtq+ friendly 🌈 follows will come from @sweeetfemme c: would love help from mutuals to spread this 💕

i don’t know who’s gonna read this, but if you’re in the middle of a story and you’re stuck, or you’re having trouble finding motiviation to write, remember that one paragraph is still progress! one sentence is still progress! heck, even one word is better than nothing. just write something. one small step forward still counts as moving.
my biggest flaw is that i plan out these big, elaborate WIPs and when it gets down to actually writing i realize i have absolutely no idea how to write it.
