Pokemon AU: Cultivator’s spiritual powers are tied to Pokemon. These Pokemon are bonded with spiritual objects, the most powerful of which are bound to swords. It is taboo to bind a Pokemon against their will.

Binghe’s Wooloo, Zheng Yang, was wounded when its sword was broken at the Immortal Alliance Conference. When Binghe fell into the Endless Abyss, he assumed his Pokemon would break their bond to free itself from the shattered sword. It didn’t.

When Shen Qingqiu brought Zheng Yang back to Qing Jing Peak, the sword was repaired and made into a burial mound. The peak’s disciples couldn’t decide what was more heartbreaking: their mourning Shizun kneeling at the grave, or the scarred Wooloo keeping its vigil next to the sword, waiting for a master who wouldn’t return.

When Binghe and Zheng Yang met again on Qing Jing peak, Binghe was nervous at first, afraid of hurting it with his claws, but the Wooloo barrelled straight at him, knocking him off his feet, and nuzzling his face with tears in its eyes. It then presented him with the guanyin pendant Binghe had entrusted to it years ago. The string was frayed and broken, but the pendant itself didn’t have a single chip.

As for why Zheng Yang’s appearance changed, most assumed it was the sword breaking that did it. Shen Yuan theorized that the System had something to do with it. The original’s Zheng Yang had broken the bond and was never seen again (just another abandonment for Bingge, honestly Airplane, not everything has to be a tragic backstory), but his Binghe’s Zheng Yang had stayed. The System probably adapted to accommodate and turned the poor thing into a shiny (after all, how could the System allow the protagonist to just have a run-of-the-mill Wooloo? Also, ✨symbolism✨)

Mobei Jun has been bonded with his Articuno, Chen Shuang, since he was a child. While Chen Shuang is not bound to a weapon, as Mobei Jun prefers to rely on his ice magic in combat, it wears a crystal pendant of unmelting ice around its neck which is tied to Mobei Jun’s earring. When Mobei Jun is not traveling by shadow, he rides Chen Shuang to monitor his kingdom.

Chen Shuang’s favorite pastime is scaring Lao Shu, Shang Qingqua’s Sobble. It’s just so pathetic. And adorable.

Shang Qinghua technically only has one Pokemon. His Sobble, Lao Shu, often appears timid and on the verge of tears much like its master, but it’s much cleverer than most give it credit for.

During the five years SQQ spent indisposed as a fungus, SQH took in his Mimikyu, Cucumber. Cucumber misses its master terribly, but it’s determined to wait for him. Since Xiu Ya was broken, it hasn’t had the heart to wear its Serperior costume, but it’s quite fond of its Latias one. Especially since SQH sometimes gives it rides on his sword.

And those are his only Pokemon. Arceus definitely isn’t spiritually tied to his ink brush, and SQH definitely isn’t a god…or a spy…you can’t prove anything.

Luo Binghe had a Wooloo named Zheng Yang to whom he entrusted the jade guanyin his mother gave him. When the sword was broken at the Immortal Alliance Conference, he lost his connection to his beloved Wooloo. While Pokemon do not die if their spiritual object is destroyed, they must either completely sever the bond with their human companion, or be stuck in limbo waiting for the object to be repaired to free them. Binghe hopes Zheng Yang broke their bond quickly after he fell. It didn’t.

After he fell into the abyss, he found Xin Mo, a Giratina bound to a sword against its will and driven mad thousands of years ago, bringing a gruesome fate to any who wield its power.

Shen Qingqiu’s Pokemon include SJ’s Serperior, Xiu Ya (sword) and SY’s Mimikyu, Cucumber (fan).

Xiu Ya took a while to warm up to SY, recognizing SQQ but not the soul within him. At first it hated SY and would not cooperate at all, blaming him for the loss of its master. Eventually it came to realize that its reckless partner had died in a qi deviation and the idiot inhabiting SQQ’s body could not have killed him (he is too stupid). It contemplated breaking their bond, but found that it did not want to give up its old life and SY is at least amusing.

Cucumber showed up on Qing Jing peak shortly after SY’s transmigration. It recognized a kindred spirit and started following him everywhere. When it started dressing up like Xiu Ya, the Serperior was at first disgusted before becoming grudgingly flattered. It thinks its idiot master and his idiot fan really do grow on you. Like mold.
