wait what's wrong with the split attraction model? if it makes people happy then it makes people happy, esp ace folx who find themselves needing a way to explain that they're not aro or aro folx who need a way to explain they aren't ace. like... if it isn't hurting people then what's the purpose of making fun of/actively targeting people who are just trying to use words to describe themselves?
The split attraction model hinges on an over-literal reading of words that were pathologically applied to LGBT people to describe our orientation as a whole, in a way that coercively sexualizes us. And, because people are still missing this, â-sexualâ refers to gender, not solely âwanting to bangâ.
Think of, like, every negative stereotype you know attached to the words âbisexualâ and âhomosexualâ. They probably have something to do with us being sexually ravenous predators with no real regard for our partners. Itâs almost like thereâs a reason that the latter is considered offensive at best, and a full-on slur by many.
When you decide âbisexualâ isnât enough, or that âgayâ isnât enough, and that you also need âbiromanticâ and âhomoromanticâ, you are suggesting that âromanceâ is not inherently included (or, at the very least, prioritized) within gay and bisexual identities. Can you not see how this is deeply hurtful and plays into some of the most significant stereotypes about us? Not to mention, the idea that romantic and sexual attraction are so easily separated makes it VERY easy for many of us to push ourselves deeper into the closet. Thank FUCK I wasnât on this site as a young teenager, because instead of confronting the reasons why I was terrified of the idea of dating another girl (surprise: it was fear of homophobic repercussion), I wouldâve just said I was a âheteromantic bisexualâ and called it a day and thus set myself back five years.
You can be a bisexual ace, or a gay ace, or, yes, even a straight ace, because who youâre attracted to - which is literally All That These Labels Are Supposed To Mean - is not the same thing as how you are attracted to them. The identities do not contradict each other, and to claim that they do is to claim truth in some age-old homophobic garbage.
tl;dr the split attraction model is actually actively hurtful, and also, âfolksâ is a gender neutral word
one of the reasons why the LGBT community (and âdiscourseâ) is so fucked up because no one cares about sources, no one cares about fact checking, about history, about material reality, about being criticalÂ
people will just read âbisexuality means you have a preference, pansexuality means you donât see genderâ on a 14 year oldâs blog and be like huh. i guess thatâs true. fuck 50 years of bisexual activism, this closeted bitchâs blog is where itâs at
idk about yâall but I think itâs pretty terrifying having to personally hear bisexuals in offline spaces express being practically shamed out of openly identifying as bisexual because theyâve internalized the belief that bisexuality is not inclusive of trans/nb ppl and if that doesnât hit home for you how dangerous misinformation and ahistorical takes are in the current state of LGBT activism then I honestly donât have much else to say.
people NEED to fucking grasp that literally EVERY sexuality includes attraction to trans AND nonbinary people. people constantly pushing that they donât are harming bi folks, trans folks, nonbinary folks, and honestly the entire lgbt community at this point.
I repeat: the definition of bisexual as âattraction regardless of genderâ is at least 33 years old.
if you say that bisexuality means âattraction where gender is a factorâ and pansexuality means âattraction regardless of genderâ you are actively participating in biphobia and erasure of bisexuality and bisexual historyÂ
pride month! đŹ
buy my trans david shirt and help me raise money for my top surgery!
my surgery is on august 4th and i need to make the full payment two weeks before. iâm so close to my goal! less than a hundred shirts and iâm there! also: itâs pride month, baby!!!
i think more bisexual men need to embrace their role as a slut. im tired of bisexual women shouldering the entire weight of the slut community on their shoulders.
the theme is Black Lives Matter.
Attendance is mandatory
The first pride was a riot, more specifically a riot against police violence. Trans women of colour like Marsha P. Johnson paved the way for the celebration of pride today. You cannot celebrate your pride this month, or any month if you arenât also supporting Black Lives Matter and the riots going on against police violence right now. Us white LGBTQ+ need to stand up for our black siblings and their rights, their struggles. We need to amplify their voices and show any support we can.
pride month starts tomorrow, but donât let that distract from continuing to protest and donate in support of black lives matter. here are some black lgbt funds to donate to if you are able:
center for black equity
homeless black trans woman fund
miss majorâs monthly fundraising circle
pay black trans women
marsha p johnson institute
google doc full of organizations and funds
also, i know many pride events have been cancelled due to covid-19, but if you are going in public to protest or to another event, please be careful and wear a mask. covid is still going on through all this
Defining your sexuality as uniquely âbeing attracted to PERSONALITYâ is just so condescending and revealing. Like how poorly do you regard your LGBT siblings to cast our experiences in such an ugly superficial light
