Just a silly crossover that wouldn't leave my mind

watching danny phantom and i find it very fun how danny and vlads color palletes are much more similar than danny and his families. jack is all orange and maddie is all teal and jazz has a mix of both orange and teal, but danny is white black and red. its a good way to show how he's kinda the black sheep both with how he compares himself to his family (solid c student in a family of geniuses) and with being. yknow. not fully human.

and then danny and vlads visual similarities make me kinda automatically associate them. put danny in a picture with his family and he stands out. put him next to vlad and he blends in. i like how this kinda shows the character relationships. danny and vlad are the only people who will be able to understand each other, even if they dont get along. meanwhile danny feels like he constantly has to hide who he is from his family.

Part of me really wishes that Danny and Vlad or Phantom and Plasmius knew each other for longer before the reveal that they were both halfas. Because imagine being teenage Danny angsting over the fact that you’re the only half ghost in existence. You feel totally isolated from everyone around you ghost or human. And then you finally, after so long thinking that you’re doomed to a life of isolation, find out that there is another half ghost just like you. And he’s your weird uncle who keeps flirting with your mom. I think id lose my mind.

Okay thought about it for a half second more and I really like the idea of both Vlad and Danny knowing each other and Phantom and Plasmius knowing each other before the reveal because it opens the door for Vlad and Danny to get along pretty well but Phantom and Plasmius to just totally hate each other.

Like Phantom and Plasmius are already mortal enemies. Plasmius keeps targeting his family and always seems up to something but he also takes this weird interest in the new ghost kid and tries to steer him away from heroics. It’s a dynamic so steeped in supervillain tropes that Danny feels like it’s straight out of a comic book. He hates this guy more than anyone he can’t stand being around him for longer than two seconds.

And then there’s uncle Vlad who is kinda weird and might be flirting with his mom but he’s also loaded and bought Danny a really cool telescope so he kinda likes the guy. They talk about football and he plays video games with Danny (because getting close with her kids is a good way to win Maddie over) and he sends Danny articles about space that he thinks he’ll find interesting. Like he’s this adult that actually pays attention to him and his interests it’s great. Danny was so polite to him pre reveal he was all “sure thing mr masters :)” and that totally continues with uncle Vlad. In Vlads eyes Danny is like the nicest teenager he’s ever met.

Then cut to the middle of the night and they’re just hurling crazy personal insults at each other and can’t go two seconds without punching each other in the face.

The identity reveal not only is incomprehensible to Danny but also to Vlad. Because what do you mean nice polite kind of socially awkward Daniel is rude snarky hero complex Phantom. He’s never even associated the two in his head this is crazy to him.

Danny and Vlad: What? I must not be dreaming! This is a dream, I just have to go to bed and everything will be alright. After all, I haven't slept in 3 days.

The next day:

Danny and Vlad: What a strange dream. But oh well, that's life.

Danny and Vlad pretend and fully believe that it was a strange dream due to lack of sleep, and it will remain that way for a very, very long time.

the people of amity park are very confused by the nature of plasmius and phantom's relationship because one week they'll nearly destroy the city while having an extremely grandiose yet obviously personal argument about the nature of good and evil and the next week phantom is stopping in the middle of his patrol to show plasmius an instagram reel he very clearly does not understand

Out of curiosity, how much was Smithy influenced by the Heavy from Team Fortress 2? I can't find anything about it online apart, but there is a really strong resemblance between Smithy and his wispon to Heavy and his minigun (Sasha).

Hi, Evan! I noticed you and Ian were both credited for Issue #84's story, so I was wondering if you could clarify which of you worked on which parts of the issue? Thank you in advance.

I'm collaborating with every writer in this arc, and each collaboration is different. We decide who is doing what ahead of time so nobody feels like they're not being heard and can contribute however they'd like. Ian wanted to let me take the lead, so I did a lot on this story. I've set this up as a "here's how a comic script for Sonic gets made!" kinda thing, so here ya go: -I write the overall arc outline (issue 81-100), and associated informational documents on the arc's various important characters and macguffin. The arc outline is on its own years-long review and approval process which I won't get into here. -I write the page breakdowns for issues #84-86, detailing what happens on each page and how. *first submission, to IDW editors* -Thea and Bixie, our editors at IDW, give their notes on the breakdowns and I fix 'em. *second submission, to IDW editors. Breakdowns approved!* -Ian scripts the issues, adding panel-to-panel descriptions and dialogue. -I check Ian's scripts, adjusting arc-specific elements where needed and editing dialogue. I mostly just did that for Belle and the villain. I wanted Ian on this story because he's the Sage guy, and of course he can write Sonic no problem. *third submission, to IDW editors* -Thea and Bixie give their notes. Ian and I do the fixes live in a shared document. they look it over and approve! *fourth submission, to SEGA. This goes through SoA first, then is translated and sent to SoJ* -Both SEGA offices give us their combined notes. Thea and Bixie negotiate with SEGA on any notes we decide to push back on, or need extra clarification for. We also got notes on the informational documents I mentioned at the beginning here, which affected some things in the story's finale. For this one we really only got notes on Sage and on the action sequence at the end. Ian did the Sage bits and I did the fight scenes. *fifth submission, to SEGA* -Hopefully it's all done now!
