I think it’s so interesting that people think this era is inauthentic. While I understand that experiencing and witnessing change can be a difficult and uncomfortable experience, I think witnessing change and calling it inauthentic reinforces the idea that H, or even L for instance must stay in the box that was once created for them. I think arguably this is probably both of their most authentic era (outside of stunts which I would say is a different can of worms) Both of them have spoken about letting life in and embracing change, finding things that make them happy, new sounds, experiences, people. Harry has been so open in the interviews he’s done this time around, he’s not skating around questions, he’s being very vulnerable and willing to speak about his inspirations, his future wants, his enjoyment when running, the reason he loves Italy so much, ect. I think one thing I’ve learned about fans this era is that they are uncomfortable watching the evolution of an artist outside of the box they are put in and it’s incredibly easy to boil it down to being inauthentic, which really is sad when the artist is opening up in a way they haven’t before.

i absolutely agree. harry touched on it in the zane lowe interview when talking about season 2 weight loss (i'll transcribe the relevant parts below)

i miss the rings and nail polish and sparkly outfits, but if harry has moved on, i think we all need to do the same. i'm not saying we can't miss that era, i'm saying we have it as an expectation for this era.

"The song to me was like whenever I used to have a break from touring I would always grow a mustache and then when I would get back on the road and I would shave it off. And there would be some feeling of like this isnt the version of me that people expect. So I think the idea of it was like less in the facial hair thought but more in the idea of if I go away and grow and change my relationship with this idea of like feeling like I have to show up as this version of myself. adding onto this i wonder if harry shaving his head was part of the same headspace? trying to find who he is to himself instead of the Harry Styles TM that fans came to expect.
