Hi, remember me? It’s been a while! I’ve been trying to get back into some of my writings and thought this would be a fun little game to do to share some of what I’ve worked on but have not yet published.
I technically only have one/two stories that I’ve actually started to write out, so I’ll expand this to also include anything in my drafts - imagines, notes, outlines, etc.

Okay, so I know I only posted this imagine yesterday, but it’s literally been all I can think about since then. And let me just go into some background about the Cocoanut Grove because I myself only found out about it yesterday (hence the imagine)...but I just want to share with you exactly why this AU has been occupying my mind for ereani.
The Cocoanut Grove was a nightclub located within the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California, USA. It opened in 1921 and closed in 1989. But let me tell you, when I say “nightclub” I don’t mean there was a disco ball and flashing neon lights in a dark, sweaty room. This place was luxurious.
Starting in the 1920s, both the names of the nightclub and the hotel had become synonymous with glamour due to all of the stars and celebrities that would frequently go there. The silent film stars, the stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood, the Rat Pack, even U.S. presidents -- the hotel and nightclub had earned world-renowned fame itself. If you think of a name, they’ve probably been there (Charlie Chaplin, Lucille Ball, Gary Cooper, Ginger Rogers, Frank Sinatra, the list goes on).
And I doubt this is any surprise, but back in the day, nightclubs didn’t have D.J.’s to play music; they had live bands and orchestras. Beginning in the 1920s, the Cocoanut Grove Orchestra (led by Gus Arnheim) would get a 2 hour broadcast over the radio every night. In fact, The Rhythm Boys (Bing Crosby, Harry Barris, and Al Rinker) had signed up with the band, and that, along with Bing Crosby’s solo vocals on the radio broadcasts, had been huge factors in Bing Crosby’s popularity as a crooner.
Point is, this place was a hot spot. Marilyn Monroe had even enrolled in a modelling school based at the hotel in her teen years. Many award shows took place there. It was a hugely popular location to film movies and TV shows.
And the events at the nightclub itself would be pretty fancy as well. Everyone was dressed up in glamour. The room would usually be so crowded that there was no room to dance -- just sway. But the cool thing is that the performances were so close to the audience. Loyce Whiteman, the female vocalist for the orchestra who I loosely based my imagine for Annie off of, had said this about performing at the Grove:
"The most beautiful thing about the Grove is that they stood in front of you when you sang and just swayed to the music.”
So to bring it back to ereani:
I imagine Annie as the female vocalist for the orchestra. She’s probably gained popularity in her own right just from working there and the exposure she’s gotten as a result. She sees stars and celebrities all the time -- it’s her daily life at this point.
How I see Eren in this AU is that he frequents the Cocoanut Grove. Maybe he’s a wannabe that wants to get famous and hopes that he can get some exposure and make some connections just from attending. Maybe he’s already a celebrity and is there for various reasons. Maybe he is just a normal guy who sometimes goes to the nightclub. Or maybe he also works at the hotel, perhaps as a card dealer or waiter. Either way, he would definitely admire Annie from afar - she has an exceptional voice (how else would she have gotten the job?).
I can just imagine all of the different scenarios that could go down, just because a setting like the Cocoanut Grove allows for so many possibilities. There are celebrities, parties, poker games, fashion shows, plays, you name it. Just imagine ereani in that world.

Sometimes he’d wonder how they got like this, his arm hanging loosely on her waist as he watches her sleep on the pillow beside him. Just the sight of her relaxed his thoughts, his fears. He only hoped that he had the same effect on her.
Sometimes he’d wonder why life was so unfair. He would have never thought that he would lose someone he loved, but the universe seemed to prove him wrong, time and time again.
Sometimes he’d wonder what he would have done without her. She was the only one who truly understood what he was feeling, the only one who could pull him from his darkness.
Sometimes he’d wonder what he did to deserve her presence in his life. It was like she was an angel–an angel that could breathe fresh air into his lungs with each word she spoke.
Sometimes he’d wonder how much could change in a year. He never expected that they’d be so vulnerable with one another, finding solace in each other’s arms. He never expected that they’d go from friends to lovers.
He took his arm off her waist to swipe hair out of her face, causing her eyes to flutter open.
“Gray?” she asked, still half asleep. “Are you okay?”
“Yea, I’m fine,” he whispered, mentally hitting himself for waking her up. “Go back to sleep.”
“Are you sure?” she asked groggily, her eyes already fully closed.
“Yes,” he insisted, “now go back to sleep, Lucy.”
He smiled when she only grunted in response, which he assumed meant, “Okay.”

(A/N: Hey, so long time no see, eh? Anyway, this officially concludes the drabble game asks (so please don’t send me a new one, lol)! I will probably do something similar in the future, because each one was fun and challenging in its own way. Sorry for holding onto this prompt for a million years, @nonochuu! With a mix of writer’s block and real-life business, I just couldn’t bring myself to come up with anything. However, I really wanted to write something for GrayLu Week this year, so I used Day 5: Breakdown as inspiration for this fic (in addition to the music).
Speaking of the music, I kind of cheated a little bit and went back and forth between the songs I linked above, and this version of Simple and Clean. It’s just as airy and ethereal as the Sanctuary cover, if not more so. It gave off that same melancholy feeling that I needed to feel for this.
I was feeling kind of sad and frustrated when I started writing this, so I tried channeling that into the work. However, I’m not sure how much of that actually came through in the end? I think it came out lighter than I was expecting it to, and much more hopeful. Maybe it’s because I left it very vague. The background to this story, which was inspired by recent events in the manga, is much more angsty and sad…

I’m so touched, and I just wanted to say THANK YOU! I know I haven’t posted in forever, but I am still here, and I will post more writing in the future. I still have things lined up, but they will take some time.
