stop calling it a girl dinner and call it by its formal name: Fend For Yourself dinner in an ingredients household
When I was a teenager I had a phase where I called soccer football because the rest of the world called it that but eventually my dad told me “You know, there’s a point where acting smart doesn’t make you smart and just makes you annoying. Refusing to use the word that everyone else around you uses doesn’t make you smarter than them.”
So anyways I call it soccer now.
Anyways as a teenager I think I was trying to find small ways to make myself feel like I was smarter than other people but tbh my dad was right, even though I didn’t wanna admit it at the time.
At a certain point performatively doing stuff to make you sound more cultured and educated than other people just kinda makes you annoying and also shows off that you’re not willing to adjust to the most common practices where you are. You’re just creating friction for the sake of it and not really accomplishing anything.
I feel like the actual message here is going over a lot of y’all’s heads
“Let people talk however they want”
Yeah okay. You can talk however you want. You can choose to make communication more difficult with those around you on purpose just to make yourself feel smarter. It’s a free country.
“That’s a mean thing to say to a child”
I was fifteen and needed someone to sit my ass down and tell me how I was coming across to other people. Sometimes parenting does in fact involve telling your kid when they’re being a bit of an ass.
“Only Americans call it soccer”
Untrue but even if it was true I live in the US and calling it football only causes confusion in my everyday life. Your worldview is Eurocentric and your point is irrelevant to my life and this post isn’t about soccer anyways
Now that everyone is discussing Nolan's Odyssey movie, I feel like it's a good time to let non-Italians know that the production dumped plastic props into the Italian sea. Weirdly enough I could not find any article in English about it but it's a fucking problem nonetheless.
I might translate this article later today. This one was the most complete one, even in Italian news it's not talked about that much.
Non è la prima volta che la produzione solleva un vespaio in Sicilia. A Lipari una squadra di sub sarebbe però già impegnata a bonificare i
They dumped plastic skeletons in environmentally protected areas, against the literal contracts they had to sign to get the permits to film in environmentally protected areas. Like they not only did a bad ecological thing that freaked out some divers, they literally broke environmental protection laws and their contract with the Italian government

A companion:
washing dishes is evil because you go "oh fuck there's so many dishes this is gonna take foreverrr" and then you enter the dish abyss and emerge with your abdomen somehow covered in water and your hands all wrinky and then you look at the clock and what felt like half an hour was actually 10 minutes
Taras Shevchenko and Ira Aldridge by Heorhiy Melikhov, 1963
Famous Ukrainian poet and artist Taras Shevchenko befriended the African-American Shakespearean actor Ira Aldridge, while the latter was on tour to the Russian Empire in 1858. Shevchenko did his portrait in pastel. It is recounted that the two men got along very well. While posing for the portrait, Aldridge sang African-American songs to Shevchenko and in return, the artist taught him Ukrainian songs.
The portrait in question:

There’s at least a little good news
For those of you confused about why it’s “nearly all children” that’s because children born to foreign diplomats and children born on foreign owned boats in US waters aren’t citizens because the constitution says citizenship applies to people born in the US and subject to the jurisdiction thereof. Diplomats and people on foreign owned boats aren’t subject to the jurisdiction of the US government.
