Also, do not walk close to walls. It will be easier for someone so walk past you and push you against it or corner you.

If your gut is telling you to cross the street or change your path, do it. Don’t risk it. Your body knows.

If you can, buy a large umbrella and walk holding it. Studies say that predators are less likely to attempt an attack on someone that could fight back. Keys around your knuckles is fine but you’ll need to get very close to do damage. Umbrellas are more precise.

Avoid wearing headphones if you are alone on an empty street. Look aware.

Again: Stay. Away. From. Walls.

Entering an uber alone? Call your father (or anyone you trust) and say “hey dad! Yep, I’m almost there, I’m sending you the route.” outloud. Then proceed to send them the route so they can follow the uber drive. This will most likely intimidate the predator.

If you see someone in an uncomfortable or possibly dangerous situation, walk up to them and say “Betty, oh my god, I haven’t seen you in so long!”. If she gets slightly confused, you can whisper and let her know you’re trying to help and that she should follow along. Walk together to another station or away from where you are. The man will most likely not follow. I have done this one 2 times and can be very helpful.

If you are unsure she needs help, you can pass her a note saying something like “hey, I noticed this man beside you is making you uncomfortable. If you’d like help, fake a sneeze right now and I will come up to you and pretend we are friends.” This is a long note, but its an example. Be discrete. If she follows along, proceed with the previous tip. This is helpful when you’re in a crowded train and you notice harassment.

Help your sisters. Trust them. Trust yourself. Be safe.

Many people who read fanfiction also require the assistance of text-to-speech or audio description software. Blind and visually impaired people are very much present in the fanfiction and fandom communities, but are so frequently disregarded or forgotten about.

If you are writing a work and like to utilise paragraph breaks, please do not use combinations such as the following:

The first line is a series of O letters. The second is a series of asterisks. The third is a series of dots, circles and stars. The last is a series of tildes. End ID.]

The software will read these combinations out loud letter for letter or symbol for symbol. For example; it would read to the user the word ‘asterisk’ six times in a row, or the word ‘tilde’ five times in a row.

This is unpleasant, confusing and often irritating for blind or visually impaired readers. If you would like a similar sample of what it would sound like, enter one of the above combinations into Google Translate and use the audio button.

Here is a post by @ao3commentoftheday​ that also details this difficulty and provides links to downloadable audio transcribers and fanfiction audio readers. These are also helpful for if you simply wish to listen to fanfiction but can’t find a podfic of the work.

Screen Reader Friendly and Screen Reader Compatible are AO3 tags that help visually impaired readers track and access fanfiction that is consciously created with their needs in mind. Please consider adding these tags to your works in order to expand the range of works that visually impaired readers can safely and confidently access.

Alternatives to these are:

Utilise HTML or embedded line break functions where possible, such as the feature on the Archive’s editing functions. Most screen readers should be equipped to understand these.

[Line breaker] can also be read by most screen readers. While not as aesthetic, it’s still functional.

Use an image divider/breaker and utilise the Alt Text or [ ] descriptor functions to label it as a line breaker.

The story's not written yet, but he's been my favourite boi for years:

Bix. He's a 28 y.o. man living on an anti-utopian planet that is fully dependant on technology sth like a colony of another planet that is rich as hell and doesn't care about its colony. (Sorry, these explanations are important, otherwise some aspects won't be understandable...)

The so-called system of this colony is corrupted by a failed AI-project, so the planet can't use most of the technology, since it will also be corrupted and try to kill as many humans as possible.

Now Bix, he's a genetical nightmare. He's an albino, has a photographic memory and a genetical illness that can't be cured on the colony (of course), so that he'll die by 30.

Because of his memory, he works as an information source (USB-stick, hehe) for the local mafia that works as the inofficial government, bc the real government can't do shit.

He gets payed quite a lot, but most of the money flows into his sky-high hospital bills and credits for motorcycle (that he needs for work) and flat.

Bix is pessimistically-realistic about his illness, so he tries to make no friends (though he still has three and lives with them) and love is a taboo (which will be an important aspect of the romantic plot) for the very same reason. Otherwise Bix seems very energic, sometimes grumpy and often rough, but he's actually a soft boy (though only around friends).

Hell, I could name so many fun facts about Bix, like that he's afraid of dogs or that he sometimes lets a friend dry his hair after washing it, but it will take ages, so I'll stop by the important one: he's GAY. Gay af, and doesn't care what others think about it.

Made a giftcard for my father, 'cause it's his birthday soon. Took me "only" like 2 hours to make I think and now I'm proud of it; but I'm also thinking that if he throws it away I'm gonna kill him. He should keep it, because it's the prettiest giftcard I've ever made yet and it took me so goddamn long and I'm gonna be angry if he throws it away.

It's morning right now and I went outside on the balcony and you know what? The atmosphere is perfect. There's a soft but steady rain, the air is fresh and easy to breathe, the little green herbs we have growing on the balcony are being watered, the raindrops are making a soft tapping sound on the young green leaves of the trees that surround us, which together is the sound of rain. The overall scenery is fresh, but also a greyish because of the rain, but it makes it look even more fresh, not the young spring fresh, but the rainy fresh. It's just beautiful. But you know what surprised me? Blackbirds. I always thought they only make one sound, like crows, but no! They have so many different tunes and I was standing on the balcony listening to the rain and the blackbird on the roof of a nearby house and honestly, I wished that this could be a picture. An everlasting picture where I'd be trapped in the moment forever and just enjoy it, forgetting everything else.

Although, on second thought, this is not such a good idea, I still have a life to live.

But this morning was beautiful.
